tapping/clicking noise

when my car is ticking over there is a tapping/clicking noise but when i put the clutch in it stops. When i release the clutch it starts again anyone got any ideas what this could be?

mines started doin the same over the last week,+ some times hard to get into first gear.

very common i seem to think mine has done this since i got the car in 2001 on an r plate i got told its something to do with the injection mines fine never known it any different and never got any worse has yours always done it ???

not really at 1st i had a reli annoying squeaky/whistling noise that i think is the alternator but it has knocked but not as much

personally i dont think its knocking as in cylinder head or anything major its like more of a ticking noise lets see what everyone else says would be interesting

someone told me ita a single injector and this is what the ticking noise is nothing to worry about replies on this appreciated guys ty

yep mines in for service mot and timing belt change on sat il ask them aswell then compare lol

Does it do it more when the engine is cold in which case it should be slightly understandable. Do you have a haynes manual it should say in there.

its the release bearing in the clutch. this will only get worse if you ride the clutch or keep it in gear at traffic lights SO DONT !!!! lol

citroen said today timing belt service £280,but thats 75,000,or every 10 years,so i dont need a new clutch then????

£280 what a joke citroen are my service is£65 plus vat plus parts because im having service mot is only £20 and timing belt change £100 thats with the kit belt and pulleys

took my car in early mate her goes engine is normal on tick over with the tapping noise but failed mot on passenger side ball joint i knew this as there was oil under arch plus 2 cv boots not bad £96 including parts and labour but then theres the service and timing belt change on top
