Had a new valeo clutch fitted today, along with new driveshaft seals. All good and smooth, no whines anything but when i reverse slow, say bring the clutch up slow i get a little judder and it feels like i dont know :S

Never did it before the clutch change.

Cheers

You sure?

Because even the old clutch was fine i could reverse slow and it wouldnt make that noise. Got me slightly worried. Engine jerks more aswell since. No doubt thats the ECU mount as the other 2 are new.

check all your gearbox bolts are tight mate. i had this problem and changed 3 clutches cos of it. turned out my gearbox mount was buggered and was vibrating a gearbox bolt loose at the bottom of box where it joins the engine block, causing the gearbox to move away from the engine about 10mm. had a bad judder in reverse, then eventually 1st. got to the point i couldnt reverse at all as it just juddered on biting point.

Well the garage changed it (wasnt a back street garage either! decent one). I was reading your thread lastnight actually.

Thanks for that, il go around ALL the nuts tommorow! incase they arnt properly tight.

The gearbox mount is fairly new, done about 1k miles.

I hope its something simple like that because it wasnt a cheap make clutch, it was a Valeo one :/

I know the ECU mount needs doing, maybe they added stress to it when changing it over. i dont know

This means nothing mate when I worked at ford there were more cars that came back because some one forgot to tighten them up or forgot to put them in. Chances are though it's you just need to get use to the biting point and adapt your driving style.

Check the ecu mount whist your at it iirc its only 2 13mm bolts holding the mount undo them and check the bolt isn't snapped.

lol hope it is simple as that for ya and you have caught it sooner than later. like i said with me i changed the clutch 3 times because of this lol. clutch would be fine then after a few days would judder, thought it was the cheap clutches i where buying at 1st but got a valeo one like you and it still ended up doing it. then noticed the bolt was loose, tightened it, was fine again, following day got the judder and bolt was hanging half out again. a lot of money effort sweat and gearbox oil all just for a pigging bolt and a mount lol.

Yeah i can imagine :/ i do because i cant afford to keep changing clutches lols.

got the mani to put on tommorow so whilst im at it i'll go around all the bolts.

yeah i couldn't which is why i went cheap. then cos of the judder thought thats the reason (get what you pay for) then i was real pissed when it started with the valeo lol. spent a fortune on gearbox oil though which did the missus head in lol

Ive just been out in the car. It makes the noise as you fire it up (engine jerk) and its on the drivers side.

Possible mount bolt or the rubber bush under it that's gone. Easy to check and change yourself.

They possibly broke the bolt if they only supported the gear box end of the engine whilst doing the clutch. If it has gone they are about £30 from citroen for a new mount and £5 for the bush under.

Cheers, will get one asap then.

So its 2 bolts each side of the mount and one underneath of the mount to hold the bush under it?

Relived to say the least.

Yeah check it's gone first though.

You will need to support the engine with a jack before you remove it and I think there are 3 bolts holding the mount to the engine. Not sure not done a mount on a 16v in a while.

Edit its 4 bolts that mount to the engine then 2 13mm bolts that hold the mount to the chassis. you will also need a torx set to fit the new bolt when/ if you get it.

As said I thought you'd already changed it

Do normally get judder with new clutches as the bite has changed, but after a few days you should be used to it

Some mounts have 3 studs/nuts to block, some have 4

Easy to change as said though :)

Cheers, ofcourse yeah jack under the engine. I'll have to buy a new Torx bit as i dont have that size and then buy a mount/bush.

Cheers for the help guys!

Just to say i found out the issue for this. The lowe engine mount wasnt fully tight! so it was rattling only relised when i was faffing with the exhaust.

Problem; loose bolt.
