I seem to remember Ryan on here saying that for cameras it's either Nikon or Canon or nothing.

There's nothing wrong with it being in this section imo...
It is general discussion after all and not exactly into fine details of photography..
Ryan will help.. adsayer studied photography also I think..
Not sure what his name is nowadays on the forum or if he is still active

I've been doing photography courses for 4 years now, they're ok but nothing compared to getting real experience. Also as said above, Nikon or Canon.

300 could get you a second hand 500d with a lens. thats where i'd start.
get a proper SLR as apposed to one of the bridge cameras or advanced compacts

On a cheap budget the 'compact systems' are good.
The issue you have is if you want to do more you will need to reinvest.
If you go down the slr route, only touch canon or Nikon. I don't give a toss if this upsets someone with a Sony or whatever they are the best two systems on the market in terms of user base. This means you have a much better market for buying and selling, greater lens selection bla bla bla....
If not going for an slr, the panasonic has had great reviews.
You don't need to study anything anyway, I'm a full time photographer and self taught. There's plenty of free information online/forums if you need.
Www.camerapricebuster.co.uk for prices too.

I work in a school directly with the main photography lady. We often go into the dark room as we develop prints manually as they did back in the day.
Cameras in general in the place are pretty standard tho tbh.

Just a min there mate. You go in the dark room with her in the school that's some kinky shit right there.
You could just be my new hero.
I got given a canon 450d for winning student of the year at college but tbh my pics are appalling.

I know it's no professional photo, but a while back I took this on a digital camera.. :homme:

Im no expert, but your much better off with an slr in terms of quality, the photo looks ok-ish now, but if I were to zoom in or crop it, it becomes incredibly pixelated.

What I find looking at that picture knight-22 (and no offence) is I love the setting, the sun scene and the old dinghy's laying around, but the car doesn't actually look as good as the rest of it!

I bought myself this kit a few weeks ago as I am going to start getting into it as a hobby myself:

CANON EOS 1100D Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Zoom Lens
TP1700 Tripod
SLRC200 Digital SLR Black & Orange Camera Holster
Di-II LD 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6 Macro Zoom Lens
Need to learn how to use all the functions still, brilliant camera though I think even though I know hardly anything lol. Feels good in your hands and its not too big or heavy. Hoping to go out this weekend to take some pictures as the weather has been pants lately!

Yes.... the thing is.... I had this exact thought. We both went in whilst the kids were doing their work..... all i could think of was, " in my school, there would have been rumours going around ".
It like being in the fuckin red light district. Just before you're about to engage.
Shes mega fit too !

The new csc systems are actually very good. You have the ability to shoot raw on them etc...
I actually know of quite a few pros who also have these as either some form of back up/remote camera.
After the London riots where lots of guys lost thousands on gear being smashed/stolen by youths the smaller less obvious systems actually proved to be a godsend.
However you spec your kit for your needs when you are working full time, my gear is set up for what I shoot and sometimes people may want something ill need to rent gear for.

I bought a Nikon D5000 around 3 years a go. I haven't checked prices since but its a great SLR for beginners. I'm still using it and I only upgrade my lens depending on what I need the lens for.

Only got a few photos on there but all of them were taken using the same camera.
