Started off with a really bad chest for a couple of weeks, that my shit ass doctor gave me antibiotics over the phone for.... Which have probably done fuck all.
Since then i've got the full on lurgy. So it seems like its a virus.
What do you guys do to stop this irritating illness take hold of you ?
Bucket of hot water, Lemsip ? Sleeping at night is the hard part.

Man up is what you do.
If you can stand up and get dressed and even type on here you don't have the flu.

As minging as they are, a lemsip 4 hourly usually does the trick for me really. That, lots of kip and drinking plenty of water are all that I do really. Always keeping tissues close by is a must - nothing more annoying that a runny nose... both to have and having to listen to!
Can't say I've tried it but have you tried sitting in aa hot bath for a soak? Some of the steam might help to clear your nose? Hope you feel better soon though man :y:

I've come down with something. I dose up to the eyeballs with neurophen (SP?) etc. Whether it makes any difference I don't know, but it keeps me from whinging.

I tend not to get it. Once got it, played an hour of 5 a sides that and felt like I was going to die, then felt amazing in the morning! So if I get it again, I might try that.

If you have a fever - take some paracetamol - takes the edge off it!
or try some

Keep well hydrated, if your pee is pale yellow/almost see through then spot on. Hot drinks will help with nasal congestion but stay away from coffee. I think steam inhalation is probably best for a blocked nose. Paracetamol will bring down your temperature if you have one. If you have a sore throat then putting a teaspoon of salt in hot water to dissolve then gargle, if you can't gargle then there are anaesthetic throat lozenges :). Other than that, if your fighting to get out of bed then that will be your body telling you to rest. If not, then man up haha. Hope you get better soon :y:

This.
You have nothing more than a common cold, which I will carry on as usual and get on with it. Until you've experienced the flu you can't understand how people die from it. Once you've had it, you wonder how you didn't die from it.
I was always told the difference between a cold and the flu, if there was £50 in the garden and you had a cold, you'd go an get it, if you had the flu, you wouldn't. It's true.

here's an old granma trick: get some crystallised raw sugar, looks like this:
http://0.tqn.com/d/chemistry/1/0/v/p/brownrockcandy.jpg
Put about 10 0z in a large bowl. Wash, peel and chop half a pound of carrots, mix together in the bowl. Leave to rest in your fridge overnight. Have a teaspoon of the syrup that's now there every few hours. That will sort you out double time. Your "doctor" is obviously telling you what his computer tells him. Not sure how much of a doctor he really is since antibiotics do fuck all against viruses. Also consider 500 mg vitamin C pills for a few days.

Yeh, well, at first I didnt have the cold with it.
So doc must have thought it was bacterial. Now soon as i started taking the antiB's the cold came along sharpish. I was blowing blood out my nose this morning..... ?

Well, I say flu... I meant that as a general term.
I know i have a cold. But as a matter of fact i've had influenza when i was younger and yes it did fuck me up.
Sorry doc.

antibiotics weaken your immune system. If you're blowing blood out, see a GP, not saxP

Honey lemon n brandy always is good for me, nums the throat very well for a few hours, whack the mixture in the microwave for about 45 seconds so its very hot, sniff the vapours until its at a tempreature suitable for drinking.
Add brandy accordingly to your needs :)

I just carry on as normal too, just moan a bit. I shouldn't have been at work the other week, but I didn't want another absence on my record. I managed to spread it to a few other people too.
