Ive made this thread before many years ago, so time for a fresh one.
The canteen at my work is closing on the late shift so no hot food is available, only shitty over priced rolls in the vending machine.
What do you have for work which you prepare yourself, or what ideas have you got?
Im going to go food shopping tomorrow and one meal I will be making for a few days is chicken chow mein.
We have microwaves, thats it though.

Chili is a good bet, tuna pasta or bolognese is easy to reheat. Currys work well though seem to be spicier reheated. Easy to eat with something like pitta bread.

Not too fussed with whether its healthy, but ideas where I can use fresh produce would be better.
Cheaper the better.
Dont really want it to be nice.... haha
Something I can prepare tomorrow or sunday morning and keep in the fridge for 3 days and take a portion before each shift.

Not into my pasta's
Spag Bol and Lasagne ive over done recently so dont like them anymore lol
Dont really want currys, as I end up walking around the warehouse with my mouth open like an overheating budgie.

if your not too fussed about it being hot or not, maybe tuna or chicken sandwiches would be good, as there cheap and easy to make

I generally go to the chippy everyday. Costs an absolute fortune to be honest.
If not the above, simple Philadelphia sandwiches with some crisps and chocy! I sound like a school kid LOL

Breads really bore me haha im quite fussy!
Shepards pie is a good shout and wraps though.
They have pototoes in the vending machine also probably overpriced.
Yeh John at our canteen I had 2 burgers which were £1.85 each. I cant stand the breakfast they do there so I normally have a panini, but it seems they make one batch for the whole week, wankers.
No way will I take a george foreman to work! Hundreds of people work there, around 350 people on my section over the 3 shifts. And another section use our canteen too so another 100 there.
Stew is a good one, I dont like stews, but if you call it a soup I like it lol, some fresh baguette to dip in too.

I don't get too excited over a sandwich either but they do the job well enough
Fridge raiders are deffo win though.
You like sausage rolls? I don't but they seem a good thing to take for lunch.
Then the usual pasta's etc.

Here we go, im going to prepare this:
Chilli Con Carne (http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/chilliconcarnewithri_91064)
and
Chicken Chow Mein (http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/chickenchowmein_89258)
Buying everything to cover me for 2 weeks will cost £25.89, but thats including oils and powders which I obviously wont buy every week.
Works out at £2.58 per day with decent quality ingredients. Saves me £50 a month preparing my own food. Free fuel for 2 weeks in that case :)

I proved my issue today. After seeing this thread last night I made a packed lunch for work. Bought it to work with me today and still went to the chippy!

I used to have that problem as well when the canteen was open, as Id rather the hot food, but when I take something that is fully tempting then I cant resist but eat when Ive taken.

Just thought I'd let you know I went to make sandwiches for work today, buttered my bread etc then remembered I gave the last of the ham to the damn dog to take his tablets with.

massive pot of chilli with rice
also a huge amount of home made soup, broccoli and potato / pea and mint / pepperpot are all ones I do. You can make a huge bowl for a quid or so, very easy and very nice!

I need to be a bit more economical with food otherwise I'll be spending a fortune when I move out...
I plan to make a big saucepan of food at night which will be enough to feed like 4/5 people and then what I don't eat chuck into tubaware box's and bang in the fridge or freezer!!
Then I'll have a bit of a backup supply of food so I never go hungry and I don't have to cook every night..
Typically going to make
Thai Green Curry
Spag Bol
Chilli
Stir Fry
Stew
You can just take a pre-made meal and an uncle bens microwavable rice or similar and make a nice meal for your dinner!
take them to work and bang in the micro! :y:
