ok so i thought as mine looks pretty rough and i had purchased a replacement months ago i thought i would get around to fitting it hence where the problem comes.

So i have looked at the Haynes manual and that's about as helpful as a chocolate tea pot on the VTS it just references to undo the two bolts securing the tensioner pulley to the engine and this is where the problem lies i can not find two bolts i can see the one 15mm one underneath the pulley which only loosens the belt if i undo the top alternator bolt but not enough to remove the belt.

The only thing i can see that would allow the pulley to move is the bolt as in the pic but this is a stupid torx bolt and i dont have the right size to fit it so have not tried it.

i have posted some pics below so you can see what im referring to any advise would appreciated as maybe im doing something wrong as i have seen some posts referencing two 13mm bolts but again where are these as a cant see them ?

That torch bolt you see in the last pic is the one to remove the tensioner I would have thought. Is the tensioner not like fords and most cars spring loaded self adjuster? So where the wheel of te tensioner you have a socket and push down and then you will untension the belt.
If not is bet you need a torx bit to undo it.

Well the bolt seems to allow the tensioner to move up and down which is why i assume i need to loosen this off as with the only bolt loosened the bracket can still not be moved so looks like i will just get some torx allen keys and then take it from there as this seems the only option hmmm

lol, slacken the second bolt that secures it, job done.

its just above the pulley.

Unless im blind there is no second bolt above the pulley that i can see but there is a 10mm bolt sort of behind the belt but this dont seem to connect to the bracket ?

The one im referring to is in the second pic on the left but that dont appear to be anything to do with the pulley

The other one is def the one slightly harder to get because of the belt

So the ones circled are the ones i undo being 72 & 75 as they match mine and are both torx so will have to wait until i get some to fit which is a pain but thats the way it goes a lot of the time lol

My vts is a W reg and I just replaced the crank pully there's the tensioner bolt and the bolt where yours is a torx mine was a 13mm hex but as far as torx bits go you can pick a torx set up for about 15 quid from most motor factors or tool stores I have a draper one and it has pretty much every torx I could ever need short and extension torx bits so for the money they are well worth the buy and your always gonna have a use for them

Yeah i was looking at getting from T10 upwards but noticed most seem to go 30-40-50 but the one on car looks a little smaller then a 40 possibly T35 ? but could just be my eyes lol

get a Draper set, they have allen keys in there as well, and a nice metal case, and the long ones too.
