View Full Version : What weekend car.

webby

I hate doing these type of threads but I'm genuinely stuck for ideas. It will be a weekend car with a anual trip to the ring. so fun is paramount and something that's not going to depreciate and fast standard no modified cars.
Budget 10kish
And that's about it. I've thought of a tvr but now I'm stuck.

Any suggestions

I'm trying to take advantage of winter and people letting toys go cheaper.

Not going to depreciate jazz. Plus I already have an e36m3 evo coupe

I thought of both the skyline and supra as they have seen to have plateud in price. But something about them just doesn't stir me. Same for most Japanese cars.

Everyone has a Porsche.
Doesn't have to be modern either.

E36 coupe is about as fashionable as a pair of worn woolen socks.

Its a weekend car, it should be a drop top for poser appeal and the E46 is by far the better alrounder.

Something old and jap, can pick up good bargains these days.

I picked up my old GTO for under 4k. Ran early 12 second quarters in it's sleep.

All depends.....
Weather or not your the type of person who likes some makes cars better than others..
weather or not you want fwd rwd or 4wd.....
weather or not you want a two seater or 5 seater or a strip out race car....
weather or not you want old school or new school....
and lastly how much you looking to spend on repairs every month.....

Personal i would go for a stripped out escort cosworth because im a ford nut and im more into old cars than i am new and i only like to drive fwd and 4wd cars lol.

As a weekend car/toy I'd be looking more into kit cars to be honest. Buy the right one at this time of year and you'll never loose any money on it. The value doesn't seem to ever really drop on them.

Clio V6:

5.0 V8 Capri:

Vauxhall Monaro:

Audi S3 Quattro:

And the best choice out of these all, Escort RS Turbo:

None of those are really 'weekend cars'...

Get one of these:

Rey has the right idea.
Already have my bike licence. Haven't ridden on the road in nearly 3 years due to the complete amount of nobs on it. I just don't find it fun anymore. I borrow a friends 600rr to go on trackdays with.

The focus is much like my megane f1 which is what I'm selling to raise the bit of extra capital.
Currently the garage sits like this.
E36 m3
Big horn
Alfa 156 diesel wagon
205 diesel
106 diesel
406 v6 coupe
Escort van
Toyota land cruiser
Megane rs f1 team.

And everything minus the 2 4x4 and m3 and alfa are going.

So I'm after a full on hooligan car. Doesn't have to all that comfy or good on fuel as I have another weapon to do that job. Hence me thinking tvr.

I haven't looked at previous suggestions, but surely it has to be a caterham or lotus

or thinking outside the box, what about a vaux vx220t?

genuinely no, but if I was getting a weekend car or a car for fun it has to be something totally impractical so a caterham is the obvious educated choice, A lotus is a good shout but I'd get the caterham.

Good from you!

Impracticality is the best part of a weekend car. It's something that needs to be kept for fun.

A caterham, westfield, MX5 based exocet, or duratec power Phoenix kit car. Its really got to be that kind of thing if its a toy for the weekend
