After reading the threads "Noises in the sky" and the one about the Rover on Mars, I reaoised something.

Humankind has to have an explaination for everything. Why is this?

An example is the Rover looking for water. Apparently, no life can be supported without water. Why? Because we can't? How do they know "aliens" MUST have water like us?

Another, the noises in the sky. Why can't it "just happen"? We seem to have to find a reason for everything.

And finally, Oxygen! How do they know that there's Oxygen on earth and not on the moon? Because we can breathe? How do they know that it isn't because something IS there that isn't here that stops us breathing?

A good example is the "four humours" from the past. They swore blind that they knew how the body worked. Turns out they were wrong.

Hopefully all the above makes sense..

Just thinking out loud.

So, You're wanting to know the answer to why we want to know the answer to everything?

Curiosity is what sets us apart from the other animals.

Where most animals would flee or hide from something scary - we would investigate and defeat it.

I think the more modern things such as the moon landings and the noises in the sky comes from a complete lack of trust in our governments and too many action films. People fail to realise that people in the government have bigger things to worry about than scaring the odd citizen with a loud noise.
But because there's no chance in hell that the government will answer back - it feeds the theories and they spiral out of control.

Personally I think the uneducated look for something sinister and choose not to listen to any evidence against it.

It's called science. If we never looked for reasons for things we would still be cavemen... or religious.

That's fair enougb but science can't prove everything it claims.

How can they prove that there is Oxygen on this planet? We can't see it, touch it or smell it.

You should think to yourself. Not out loud. :y:

It's a chemical compound that can be measured Jay.

That comment's almost as bad as some of the conspiracy posts on here. "science is lying to us all!" ;)

Did you never use these things at school? they show electrons / neutrons / protons in an atom or molleculor structure (or something like that?)

If you you want serious answers to these questions this probably isn't the best place to ask. Oh, and please, please, go and read some science books first...

ill send you to the moon and take your space helmet off.....then you can tell me if there is oxygen there or not

There's gas meters that measure the percentage of oxygen and other gasses in the air. We use them at work to tell if its safe to enter certain areas.

You can extract oxygen from the air/water and bottle it up, simple tests can be carried out to prove this stuff isn't just the same as normal air.

I agree theoretical science is probably pushing things a bit far, like the theory of the big bang ect, but the existance of oxygen isn't theoretical lol.

Wack a lambda sensor on the moon and see if your EML light comes on.
