the thin steel plate that sits behind the disc, do i need it ? one of the bolts has sheared off and really dont want to have to drill and retap as its in a very hard place to drill and tap

decided i cant get a drill or tap in there any way, id need a long tap to reach over the arm to be able to rotate the tap chuck

you can remove that part to make it easy. the hub will need removing first. 4 allen or torx bolts hold them to the trailing arm.

Best to have it on bit it's not essential
Not put a littl spot weld on the one that's rounded to keep it in check?
Stops stones getting in to the caliper and muck and salt etc

Or just run it with two bolts. It wont go anywhere.

are they that important though?
fronts dont have them...

I think they just help keep the brakes cleaner. The fronts generate the spray so dont really get too dirty, the rears get the brunt of rain, salt, wind back there under the car.

ive never took the hubs off to get them off
allways just bin them on my cars they dont do anything really and tbh they are just added weight and annoyance

rears are alot more exposed then the front too
as said theyre not essential..but less likely to get a seized caliper or ruined seals on your breaks if theyre there

i doubt you'd risk using your car if it was missing a valve cap incase of a blow out :homme:

For the record, when removed a disc rear beam can be used with 13" wheels. I ran a vts beam on my derv and had to remove them to allow use of standard wheels :)
