View Full Version : Ever seen a 106/Saxo smash and think "Maybe it's time to move on?"

Evening kiddies,
A bit of a random one, but I was bored last night and started looking through the pages of Copart (the salvage agent my firm uses) and just thought I'd see what 106's are on there. There was one on there that was, for want of a better phrase - utterly, utterly f**ked. I don't think I've seen one so bad since Josh on the 106oc had his accident back in Summer.
At present, I'm off the road due to losing my license for medical reasons, so obviously can't go out in the car to put my mind at rest - instead I'm worrying about things and it's genuinely got to me a bit. I love my 106 to bits, and don't really want to say goodbye, but does anyone else worry about the safety of these things? I've just started a new job and have started looking more seriously at newer cars... :S

I was in a massive offset head on crash in an AX, and walked out of that. So to answer your question; no, not really.

Can't say it ever happened to me when I had a saxo, I knew how bad they were in a crash when I bought it.
Never understood people with kids having saxos though.

Always in the back of my mind, but I ride a bike too and safety has never stopped me enjoying that. If its my dad it's my day. In something fun and fairly responsive like a saxo there's a possibility of you avoiding a crash. Fair enough it will probably cause one too with new/inexperienced drivers

I should be..
But if I was worried.. I probably wouldn't have strapped a turbo on,
Instead I pray ill react like I cat on E's should the time come

It does run through my mind from time to time, but generally try to forget about it as it would put me off from having any sort of fun in it al together
Suppose I should pay a bit more attention to it as I've seen what sort of damage can be done to them.... even at really low speeds

Doesn't really phase me.
Crashed mine before, and instantly wanted another.
Ncap ratings are the last thing I think about when buying a car, doesn't even cross my mind tbh.
Just try not to drive like a bum cigar.

Nope. Would be back in a saxo in a heart beat. Had a few near misses in the last on too!

I try not to think about it. It is kinda worrying, especially as i do about 500miles a week in it lol.
I've said to myself, im gonna keep it for a little while longer, continue having fun with it, then i'll buy something newer/safer.

Yes and no, I've had so many close moments in mine, especially in the wet and thats doing speed limits! But the fun factor makes me keep mine :P

was a factor in me getting rid of mine tbh

Only reason why I don't have my kids in mines.
But if its my time to go ... So be it.

All the time but its all fun, can be in a 5 star car and still get killed.

Can't say it had ever worried me when I had my saxo. Driving in general is a dangerous thing, if you are going to crash you are going to crash and if you die then its your time. I don't think a choice of car will effect it tbh. Ok it may be like driving a tin can but you can't go about your life worrying about everything and what ifs. You will just end up a paranoid sack of spuds scared to go out if ya do!

Baz posted this in the links bit. Not a saxo, but something far less safe. - Don't worry no death or anything

Compared to my bike a Saxo is ultra safe. So no never crossed my mind.

Doesn't really come into question when I buy a car, even after I'd been in a pretty big crash in my friends Saxo (nothing life threatening but left me sore for a while).
Unfortunately, I think it would have taken a fairly serious accident to put me off owning one .

I did spend like 5 minutes thinking about it when I owned mine, didn't like my GF driving it on her own as she isn't afraid of a little tear up.
Just save up and buy something safe if you're that worried about it.

Thanks for all the responses - it really is much appreciated :y:
That link was pretty shocking tbh - I guess it can happen to any of us regardless of what we drive - it's luck of the draw to some extent when it goes wrong really.
I obviously came into 106 ownership knowing that if I fell off it was going to hurt and that was part of the thrill of it - I've had one particular sideways moment myself that was caused by a tyre that had a slow puncture coming round a corner and that could've been nasty... luckily I had the reactions to give it a boot full and opposite lock to keep me out the barriers. I think it's just now that I've been out of the driving seat for nigh on 11 months and I've had time to sit down and question things - normally I'd have just cracked on with it and not really given it a second though.
Cheers again though :)

I'm such a fucking awesome driver it will never happen to me.
Nah - I'm joe average. BUT when I'm most likely to be in a crash, its likely going to be severe enough that I won't care so much about crumple zones (which I've done away with pretty much) and airbags (gone) and pre-tensioners (gone) or ABS (eh?) etc. ;)

A lot of cars are like that but it all depends on the circumstances of the crash. Even the highest ncap rating cars can end up a mess.
Saying that though the only crumple zones on the saxos are the people inside

Doesnt bother me so much, but now I have a child the Saxo's days are numbered, on the road at least.

I totally agree! No matte what car you're in you hit a tree/something solid above 40 you're going to be in a mess

That's the one mate. I didn't want to post it in case it had the same affect on someone else it did on me - the interior shot of where the dashboard ended up genuinely worried me tbh.

Fair point actually. It's all in the luck of the draw to a certain extent but it just gets to me some of the time while I'm not on the road. Come December when I should be back out on the roads, I'll be reeeeete :y:

These are at just 40mph and you wont be walking away. True luck if you survive anything heavier!

I thought I would set a trend to mismatch wheels and then it then turns into a police chase with deers..the rest is history.
