rainsport 2's in 195/50 @ £34.79 ,195/45 cheapest i can seem to find is about £55 whats the real advantage of the smaller profile? simply looks? i am lowered 40mm all round but think i should be ok on the 50 profile

The difference looks & performance or anything else is going to be minimal with such a small size difference IMO. I would go for the cheaper ones.

In 15inch? The 50 profile may rub

Ashleyp

50profile WILL rub if you:

A: have people in the back
B: turn on full lock.
C: corner pretty hard

and it'll look shit.

That's from experience of running 50's for about a week on my old saxo which was lowered about 35mm.

I prefer the look of the 50, also gotta consider that the speedo will be out. But I would go with the cheaper with that difference.

As said 50 profile will generally rub, it did for me. But I know there is quite a few people running it and dont mind the rubbing for the price difference

The car came with 195/45/15 as standard for a number of reasons, your going to save around £50.00, whats the point?

I ran 195/50/15s whilst -60mm on spax - that scrubbed with hard cornering etc.

Lifted it to around -40mm, And it doesn't scrub at all during cornering. Only time it scrubs is when i'm reversing off my drive on full lock and go down the curb - only a minor scrub, 45's scrub on the inside on full lock in the same scenario too.

Rarely have people in the back.. but with 2 x 12 stone lads in the back it does scrape when going over dips and bumps on 50 roads. But my back end needs lifting to suit, But as I rarely have passengers, it's not a problem for me.

A bonus is that bumps are more spine friendly with stiff suspension on 50's.

can only get 888s in 50 profile anyway for a 15 inch rim, so I'm stuck

I rzn 50's on my Ph1 172 because I could get Yoko Parada's in that size, I never felt the increased profile affected much and the ride was really good.

mixed opinions here so a bit confused now lol.

will it or wont it scrub, may just get 45s to be safe, just a bit skint at the moment :(

I had a set of 195/50 Proxe 4s on the car before and it didnt scrub with them, 35mm at the front 60~ at the back

How fucked your tyres? Im putting some better ones on mine this weekend so will have 2 195 45 15 to tide you over if needed?

Certain handling differences..

I found in my saxo It stuck to the road better with 50 profiles, Didn't seem to understeer like when I had 45 profiles on. But that could be put down to tyre pressures..
I like to think its to do with the flex in the sidewalls.

I was lowered 60mm with no rubbing, apart from on Full lock..

Meh

i genuinely never have anyone in the back of my car, maybe once a month i have a rear passenger so its not going to be much of an issue.

i do like the comments on a slightly more comfortable ride with 50s since i had the suspension uprated my back is shot lol.

genuinely swaying to the 50s now, rubs with 45s rubs with 50s, so thats not going to be a problem really!

I can back Ash up. My 45 profiles don't do this and they look much better too.

50's will rub as said. Which is a shame as 45s ride like dog shit imo. Hated them on my Saxo.

i have checked all arch clearences earlier and i think they will fit, running 185/50/14 vtrs as temp at the minute and there looks to be a decent amount of room in the arches, certainly at the front!!

i am aware that 45s "look better" but they also give a harsher ride!! i can handle slight rubbing at full lock in all honesty, my old 45s used to do the same!!

doing the math earlier i will be set to save just short of £100 once VAT etc is considered, and that really is tempting!!!

more rubber, less cash.

properly coming across as a tight cunt here i know haha.

i have 195/50s on my Saxo

rubs on full lock but it's not an issue. no damage to tyre or wheel so far, it's minimal.

if you don't have passengers in the back too much you will be fine. i had 2x 12/13 stone mates in the back only scrubbed twice on an 8 mile journey, not too bad.

people have had issues with both sizes!!!

one may rub with vannessa phelps in the back and one may cause me eternal spine injury.

so either way i cannot win, but i can save £100 for alcohol to drown my sorrows if it all goes pete tong...

ppl that run 50s want them to fit and want to justify the cost when they clearly dont..they look shit and catch even on 35mm drop

id rather run ditch finders that suited the car /////and drive it well///// then run 50's...its not a good look..and you're not gaining masses

just my opinion mate. can do what your heart/wallet chooses :y:

If he can get round the rubbing it'll probably handle better on the 50s. 45s are shocking. Made my Saxo wayyyy too skittish. Gone for 55s on the Mazda (albeit they're 175s) and it really does make it so much better comfort wise.

With the 45s on the Saxo was just crashy and skipped like a fucker in bends when there was bit of a blemish in the road. Horrid. Drove so much better on the VTR wheels.

mlawlan69
2nd November 2012, 14:34
just about to pay for 4 x45's at £63 a corner compared with about £45 a corner on the 50's

shit crashy ride isnt what i want but nor do i want rubbing!!

not sure which i think is worse haha.

How low are you? out of interest?

only 40 down, thats as low as i can go with where i park my car everyday resembling an old dirt track/rally course haha.

but believe me it really is so much harsher than standard, and with it only been 40 thats the reason i think i can sneak under 50s lol.

Tyres/wheels are now on!

can not recommend these tyres enough, genuinely well worth the price tag, corners where my old proxes used to give up, these just continue to grip, so glad i changed from the proxes!

car feels much more planted in the corners and as a bonus the ride is thankfully not as harsh as i was expecting, there is however rubbing on full lock!!!!

only very slightly but looking now i highly doubt 50 profile would have fit, certainly not under the rear arches.
