View Full Version : Does anyone on here have a proper DJ case ?

I'm thinking of getting a proper flight case for my gear, but the one I've seen the cut out for the CDdecks is like 8mm too narrow. However all the other measurements are fine.

Just wondering if anyone has one, because I need to know if the protective foam inside the case is squidgy or if there is any 'give' at all in the foam. Cause if there is my cdj's would probably squeeze in.

Foam should be a tight fit.

I can go through all our flight cases at work later if needed. But it should be the same foam that I have in my pelicases.

If you could see if there is any give in the foam, that would be awesome.

Its a shame this case isn't built ever so slightly wider as it would be perfect.... But for the sake of like 3 millimetres each side of a cd deck, I'm wondering if there is any chance of it fitting, albeit a bit tighter than another deck would.

The foam used in pelicases is standard for most flight cases tbh. It needs to have some give so the object is secured solid and also reduces vibration when the case is dropped.

This is what i thought.....

So would you think that even though my decks are 8 mill or so too wide, they prob would fit.

8mm is nothing. You can trim foam if desperate.

I'll get an image of one of my pelicases though for you to see.

Yeah thats what i was thinking mate...You've basically said exactly all I was thinking.

I just wondered why the shop didn't suggest this aswell. You'd think they want the sale.

Here is the case im looking at... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citronic-DJ-Coffin-Case-Mixer-CD-Decks-/140777329360?pt=UK_Vinyl_CD_DJ_Bags_Cases&hash=item20c6fb92d0

Im not really arsed about the fact it stands up I've already got a proper stand and lighting rig. I just basically need it for the case and the only other shop that does one ( tailored to my gear ) Want over 200 quid.

I'd ask for better pics tbh as there's not an awful lot of foam in thoe one bad eBay pic.

My case is like a hard foamy sort of stuff, would definitively have to trim if i ever got something slightly bigger as there's hardly any give in it at all! Although does fit snug as a bug, so much so i can hold the case upside down and they don't fall out. Seems much more secure than other cheap foam imho. So if you can find another one thats like that and fits yours well i'd say get one. All depends on how much you wanna spend obviously, like most things.

This is what i'm wondering... Its probably not worth risking it is it ?

what decks do you have? I have contacts in the industry who might be able to send you direct to people who do better deals.

I dont know if you was being funny then or not....... maybe I took it wrong. Apologies if i did.... Seemed a bit condescending lol.

The way I see it... I know how to use Pioneers I've used them in clubs many times. I just don't see the point in paying 5 grand for my own equipment. I can not afford that kinda money on a home setup.

The ones I have are same size as a cdj 1000 and have loop in, FX all sorts of bits and bobs USB input, they are midi controllers too and work really well for the price.

Granted not as sturdy as a pioneer, but I did a set off two usb sticks the other day for a girls 21st Birthday and never had one fault..... She was well happy someone actually turned up with decks not a fuckin laptop and a mixer. Crackin little media players for the price. I beg anyone to try them and tell me they are shit.

I've seen sooo many guys with Pioneers at home and don't know what the fuck to do with them, and if you're DJ'iing in clubs, well you don't need your own Pioneers do you really.

Got the same cdj's as me! and the same attitude. . no real point having really expensive gear if your going club work as like you said, they all have them. . would love a set of pioneer 2000's that i use at a regular set in town. And in comparison the numarks aren't that different. they're a bit sharper and crisp in the actions and have a couple more functions. . but other than that i think the numarks aren't a bad set too have :) especially for the price!

You'll understand when you try some. There is a reason why people will rather have pioneer over numarks, even for home use. Same difference as a fender and an argos guitar.

If you value your equipment then don't buy universal cases :p

Those type of Deck flight cases are normally designed to fit snugly and are more of a means of transport then all out protection (yeah they're meant to protect to an extent) if going for all out deck protection then you need "proper" flight cases

Much like peli cases proper flight cases are fu king expensive!

With a Peli case it's normally a case of find the nearest one to your requiremt (size wise) and trim/work the foam to fit

yeah but if you play guitar and go to a gig you have to use YOUR own guitar. where as club work you don't use your own equipment, you use there's which is mostly always high end. So why waste the money. You don't need a 4k set-up for a wedding or another function really do you.

This is pretty Much the reason my mate packed up his vinyl and technics recently

Only ever uses cdj's and and the clubs all have their own so they just get overlooked

admit it does seem to dampen variety of dj's, but depends what you want to do, if its a hobby doesn't really matter but if you want to get out there and earn a bit of dollar, you have to know how to use the right equipment. Sad really.

When you're a real artist gigging on a guitar, the guitar will have been prepped by a guitar tech with fresh strings every single time. Not just "a guitar" or "your own guitar". When you're a DJ and there's a pioneer setup wating for you, same thing.

Yeah of course you can do a wedding with a numark cd player. At the end of the day, you have to press play on gangnam style and the macarena, and Whitney Houstons' always love you back to back to back. No skills or technology required to play such things. I hope you have a little pioneer experience, because yes they cost more but on the other they're superior to numark in every other way. I have had some dreadful numark experience over the years (loss of time + money + having to rent backups because of faulty numark gear), never had a single problem with pioneer. Or Denon for that matter.

The reason people buy them for home use is mainly because you can train and be familiar on them for when it's gig time.

I use pioneers on a weekend basic's. I also play guitar and have been in bands since i was 12. Artists still have there OWN guitar. Its not no one else's. . its serviced by techies but so are mine. Just mine gets done every 6 months and re string it myself. Whereas there's are done almost every week. I've had my numarks for a while now and there perfectly fine haven't had a single issue with them and so considering how much they cost in comparison whats the big deal. I've used them for pretty everything other than club work. doesn't matter if you have a 10k set-up. You can still suck!

Fair point about that, I know of a few people with 50k upwards worth of gear yet I made better sounding farts. I'll clarify also on numark as I know they can build excellent gear. The stuff they tried to pull off recently was to make the electronics with cheaper subcontractors hence why the quality suffered. Their gear was excellent in the nineties, but it's gone downhill since.

Well i started with some really cheap numark cd players and they were quite honestly rubbish. But these ones i have, have been faultless. Suppose the same with any mark, also a dogdey one that isn't 100%. Either way back on topic yeah ;) ha

Your condescending post aside. You say until I've used them ?

To reiterate, I've DJ'd in clubs in Bham and Cov....I've used Pioneers, 350's , 400's 1000's and 2000's... you name it and you do not need a 5 grand setup in your bedroom. Its ridiculous. Unless you've got money to burn and don't care.

Also, Pioneer - Numark like Argos is a laughable comment. You sound like a fanboy with that sort of opinion.

A quality difference, of course. But you just sound like your speaking based on a named brand !
I have Numark TT Pro II's Turntables ( which were flagship decks in 98, still solid today ) They are still as strong as they day I bought them.
I've also owned a pair of Axis 9 CDJ's which never faulted on me once.

Now I own the NDX which is considered Numark's top range CDJ and its absolutely fine and a steal at the price i got a pair. Given the fact most people turn up to mobile gigs with a latop and not a clue how to mix, I'm happy with the NDX's.

As long as I know that when I need to use Pioneers, I can, thats all I give a shit about. To go out and spend 5G on my own bedroom kit, when I could get a copy of Reason 6.5, acoustically treat my room, get myself a desk, an MPC, effects pad and some new monitors, for that money....makes lots of sense ! :homme:
