Antifreeze

What happens if your antifreeze is neglected and the water in the cooling system freezes and you start the engine? Also as I've said before not long ago had my coolant replaced and when I checked it the next day, the level was below minimum. So I topped it up 50/50 with bluecol and water but now the coolant is cloudy and no spesific colour... Is this because antifreeze has been mixd? Gonna test it with a tester from halfrauds though.

Also when refilling the coolant, why do you have to use a header/ coke bottle and keep it full while filling it back up? Can't you just pour the 50/50 mix in from a jug? Just wonderd not planning on doing it lol.

Ermm not sure this will answer everything but i'll have a go! starting the engine with frozen water/coolant will most probably just make the engine overheat which obviously isn't good and can lead to headgasket failure etc.

The reason you use a header tank when filling the coolant system is because it helps bleed all of the air out of the system easier this is because the top bleeding point is higher up than the top of the radiator cap so the header brings the water level up higher/as high as the bleed point making sure all the air is pushed out.

So if you were to not use a header tank with an airlock in the system the coolant level would eventually drop? And you can too it up again?

If the water freezes it can pop the core plugs , which isnt good,
Crack the block as the frozen water expands
