View Full Version : is it possible to 'unblock' an iphone?

Davyy
4th November 2012, 21:09
My sister bought an iPhone off of gumtree a couple of weeks ago, and today it appears it has been blocked by the network. Is there anything you can do to unblock it? Ive read up online and apparently they block the 'IMEI', I dont know what that is.. but is there anything similar to a jailbreak etc which will do the job? Thanks.

It's probably stolen, and she's handling stolen goods. No other reason for it to be blocked.

Davyy

There is a way around it.

If the handset is in its first year warranty, you can sent it off to Apple and say there that there is a problem with it i.e. no signal and they will replace it for you.

A couple of my friends have done this before anyone disagrees

A girl I know lost her iphone in a club one saturday night. She called apple, they called the police and provided them the gps data. Old Bill paid a visit to the phone, and the person they had a chat with swore he was planning "to hand it back on thursday" of the same week. She got her phone back on Monday sharpish 12.

Davyy
4th November 2012, 21:46
ah that's lucky. I've advised my sister to do that but she just isnt happy as she is now £160 down

Manu

Don't buy an iphone unless the current owner is 100% able to provide proof of ownership. Sorry about the stereotype but

OP you need to grow a pair.
If your sister bought an iphone from gumtree I'm guessing she went to the sellers house ?
If yes then why are you not knocking on the guys door demanding a full refund ?

If she never meet the seller at a house then she needs to stop being stupid buying from scammers who will only sell in the street.

post a photo of your sister ill see if its the one that bought the phone I had for sale, the one I had was not stolen so if photo is of the same girl then it will be all good, ps she didn't have any clothes on when she came to my door, so just to avoid confusion she should be naked in the photo you post.

All iphone's can be tracked by the owner via apple for free.
If you have an iPhone, make sure you setup iCloud "find my phone" account (http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/find-my-iphone.html)

If you phone goes missing you can
# Locate it in real time (get your mate with another iphone to help you track)
# Remotely wipe the phone / lock it
# Make it sound an alert noise and display a message on the screen
# If switched off, alert you of its location when it's turn back on

If your friend loses an iPhone, download the "Find iPhone" app from the app store and you can track it for them.

Don't let your phone get sold to Davyy's "sister"

Manu

All iphone's cant be tracked by the owner via apple for free.

I just relayed the information, hence why don't nick an iphone even less so buy it. It can get from bad to worse sharpish.

baker556
4th November 2012, 22:28
Rogue shadow the above works rarely, all you have to do is install the phone fresh and all that disappears.

I have changed an IMEI number on a iphone before. The phone was found in the back of my dads mates taxi after handing it in no one claimed so the phone was returned to him. The phone was reported lost so the IMEI number was blocked. After alot of research i used lots of different software and changed the IMEI number to an old sony ericsson i had sitting around. Its more effort than its worth i suggest getting in contact with the seller

Rogue_Shadow
4th November 2012, 22:46
edit:

I ment can be tracked for free :D

Nothing is completely safe I agree Baker, but if your phone is simple lost or stolen by a retard. It will work :y:

clarkey1269

You have a very few options...

Sell it to someone abroad...

It won't be locked abroad. It will only be black listed by UK carriers.

Or call the POPOPPOOPOOOOOO

Does noone else find it slightly strange that he's been removing batteries etc... and now it turns out that his "girlfriends" iPhone has been blocked?

You can change the IMEI to another phone and it will work again.

Yeah he's obviously found this phone or been a chief and robbed someone.

He's not clever enough to sort the phone himself so he's taken to his favourite website and conjured up this scenario in fear he will be judged for his sins.

eBay

Can only done by phone companies

Certain unscrupulous members of phone companies offer to unblock them for cash.. If caught your all going to jail

WheresMeNuts
5th November 2012, 09:30
OP you do know you could do a swap on US ebay,Germany ebay etc with someone who also has a blocked iphone. Then both of you are winners.

BTW:(Note to self) never buy from dodgy OP :homme:

It will work outside uk.. Get it on eBay as faulty.
Change imei and risk jail upto 5 years
Go find the person who sold you it and ram it down there neck.
Use it as a iPod
Use it as a paperweight
Use it as a vibrating sextoy
Or as mentioned go on www.apple.co.uk.. Help and support section and troubleshoot no service and they will replace it if under 12 months, check serial number on apple website.

And don't you think Apple will check the IMEI number on their datebase and see its reported "Stolen". They'll keep the phone.

I know how the IMEI works but I cba to explain in detail.

So in short. You dial a number and the number and your phones IMEI go to a computer to check if the number is valid and if the phone is valid. Then it dials the person. (Google it for more information)

There isn't anyway what so ever to change the IMEI number on modern phones because they are burned into the processing chip, its not a piece of software.

Best thing is to sell it over seas to Ireland or France and get it out of the UK. It'll work over seas because its a different dialling code. Fact.

WheresMeNuts
7th November 2012, 08:09
It's very well know that apple will replace a stolen iphone that is blocked for a new one as long as it's in warranty.
Apple will never question a customer.

There is a way, as i have done it.

Its actually spoofs the imei on the phone into the imei you have set it up with.

It takes a stupid amount of hours to research get into and at one point i was changing the scripts running my iphone.

I found so much information and files etc i was going to write up a full report and a how to on my own website but never got around to it.

Back in the day the software to use was ziphone.

http://modmyi.com/attachments/forums/pwnage/65071d1216864589-3g-wont-go-dfu-pwnage-ziphone.jpg

Click fake imei.

http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/6528/e3mh6.png

Its not as simple as you see in the picutres there is alot of background information that needs to be changed along with custom bootloaders and ipsw firmware files.

For testing purposes only this is not illegal which mine was ;)

LOL, Ah ha, I remember this.

I did come across it but iirc it didn't work with the new baseband and didn't work with Iphone 4's, just the old original iPhones iirc?.

I think Apple have clicked on and cottoned onto etching the IMEI into the chip. There isn't anyway of running a fake Apple OS either with a fake IMEI. Maybe there is away but I'm not clever enough but I don't think any of us would know how unless were 1337 |-|4(|<3R5
