Anyone ever done a 1.8 vvc conversion on one of these? If so, does the engine fit straight into a 1.1 shell or is extra work needed? Cheers.

Would have had quite a hard job finding a vvc in 1992 mind you, thats when 1.4 gtis were new and the 1.8 hadn't even been developed.
Any way if you want to build one start with a decent MPi shell as a base, saves fucking around with carb models and so on and it'll have some of the right kit to begin with. That is unless you really want to use a clean early shell to get around decat laws etc

Does anything need moving on the shell mounts wise to go from 1.4 k series to the 1.8 and derivatives? Just a thought, the metro had both the k series and the TUD5 diesel in it. Did the mounts change? If not, has anyone stuffed a k-series lump into a 106/saxo?
Gandi699
7th November 2012, 12:27
1.4 to larger K-series fit just fine, and you can use the standard r65 box and shafts (dont even need to remove them from the car if you have the knack). Although with the big power 1.8s a pg1 box is recommended and fits with a bit of fettling or a swap to MGF/TF subframe and shafts.
Im not sure about the diesel mounts though as I never owned one, its probably a slightly altered subframe and mounting arrangement to accept the TUD

Id go one step further and use the T16 engine from the 600 turbo, I had one and it was 197bhp standard. In a metro - hell yeah!!!

It wont fit in a metro very easily at all, plus you'd have to fabricate exhaust and new mounts. I can think of only one metro thats had one transplanted in the years I've been messing with them

all had the 1.4 k series in them and had been tuned by his grandad bill richards (known in the motor racing for minis etc)

Also the weight of the T over the front will make it a bit of a boat

Also loving the cat ha ha!
I've had a couple of Metro Gti's, I nearly bought a VVC metro a year or so back but ended up with an Uno Turbo instead. I keep my eyes peeled for them though.

I would swap my VVC for one of those any day.
Someone not too far from me has a Metro VVC, RWD and the engines mounted sideways... I would love a go.

Hmmm, another thought, several rover models that had the k-series, also had the kv6 in the same shell. I have seen pictures of a kv6 in a 200 bubble. I wonder how different the engine bay space is between a 200 and a saxo/106, any ideas people?

Think that runs a 1.8 turbo if I'm correct with a few mods to it. I think theres a 1400 turbo with over 300bhp, I remember a guy building the engine a few years ago then it recently got bought and used.
