Nah i will second that i have broke two, guy at quickfit told me to put a thumble full of oil down the dipstick pipe to keep it from rusting as oil doesnt get that far up. Working so far for me even though i was a bit worried about doing it at first.

Doesn't it cause false readings?

Thats what i though but apparntly it just puts a thin coating of oil down the dipstick hosing prevnting it from snagging/snapping.

it will run down after a few hours and not go back up??

Cant see why you couldnt get one from another car that uses an all plastic type and use that, providing you get it to the same length and copy the markings over

11 years I've owned my 106 - from new to 150,000+ miles, and I can say I've never broken a dipstick. You're being ham fisted I suspect ;)

It's as I push the stick back into the tube... It's like it catches on something and snaps. I push it in like normal, I don't wiggle, twist and push it down fast so I wouldn't say it's from being ham fisted

When i was told i thought the same, apparntly leaves a good enough coating down the housing to prevent it snagging, The inside of the dipstick housing is prone to rusting.
