i took apart my strut to remove the front shocks and fount that they wernt extended.
i bought new ones and when i opened the box the new ones was the same ?
i though they were ment to be extended all the time ? these ones are all the way down and if i pull them up the slowly sink back down ?

What make are the new ones and are they gas or oil filled.

Did they need priming, so just pumping them in and out a few times? I've always done that with new shocks

they dont quite work like that, there ether oil filled with a non pressured air gap (like the ones mentioned) or there oil filed but with a dividing piston or bladder with high pressure nitrogen gas behind one side and oil on the shaft side its the nitrogen gas that pushes the damper shaft out, the standard ones are oil filled with a non pressured air gap the air gets mixed in with the oil when the damper works and then separates again after a while of non use

no need as this happens when the car fist drives off and over a few bumps, and as said the air and oil separates again once stood doing nothing
just pull the shaft out of the damper and fit it all back together :)
