pretty much i just changed the axle on my phase 1 vtr, and rather than spend hours cursing trying to lower it i thought about making my car standard and going for a completely standard mk1 vtr, wondered what people think to the idea as i dont think i have seen many vtr's what havnt been messed with, especially the older ones. good idea or bad? :drink:

Standard Saxo is full of win. Its not a mk1 or a vtr (makes no diff they look the same bar headlights anyway).

Noo, you should definitely just go completely nuts with modifications. Pretty much every saxo I see has lexus lights, stupid alloys or huge exhausts. It actually makes my standard vts look respectful. ;)

nothing wrong with keeping things subtle, but christ you cant have it at standard ride height!
i find cars too boring as standard. Always a better alternative to wheels, interior, exhaust, lights etc...

driving a modifed car makes you look more of an enthusiast, than driving a standard one imo

yeah i guess

but if i were to see someone in a standard saxo, i think it would make them seem the sort of person who doesnt really care for the appearance of there car - the sort of person who just drives any car for the purpose of driving from A to B

When I see people in modified cars, pulling handbrake turns in Mcdonalds.. the last thing I think is 'enthusiast'! ;)

And also, in my experience.. when I pull up next to someone at the lights; whether it's a porsche, evo, beamer, 4x4 or even people carrier! They just a see a little saxo and happily have a little fun! :y:

And yeah I know.. everyone on here's way too grown up for a little fun at the lights.

I think theres 2 types of modifying tho... Those tho wanna put neons and big bodykits on... Chavs and idiots... And then most of the sensible people on here who modify to make it better or personalise the car to what they want...

why do people always associate modified cars with handbrake turns in mcdonalds..

I couldnt give you the "correct answer" but after reading many of threads on here in the past. If its lowered correctly i think it would last as long as a standard height axel. (lets not forget they go on both).

jamie281093

quite surprised tbh, i'd have thought it would put a bit more strain on the axle, but i dont know myself, was jsut me assuming :) still cant be doing with the unwanted attention off police aswell asking if my mods are declaired haha. too many reasons to go down the standard route :P

I agree mines obviously been done a while as the bars are properly seized in... Like well and truely... And my trailing arms are perfect!

I used to think it aswell but i just read thread after thread now and again and it seems it can happen to either.

Well there you go op.

Mines perfect atm aswell. even with a full boot of bricks (dont ask):zainy: i have a bloody sweet gap between the arch and inner tyre.

well cheers for the info guys :P still shocked it doesnt really make any difference haha, i'll have to get some pictures soon when i decide weather to lower the back or raise the front to match :y:

LSOfreak

yeah lowering doesnt make a difference with its life aslong as its done properly

my 13 year old car is on its original beam and its been lowered for the passed 5 years with no problems

Bedford126
11th November 2012, 13:47
If the rear beam is lowered correctly then the lowered beam should last longer than the standard beam as the bearing should be "serviced" with new grease and all traces of water dried out.

No extra strain is placed on the beam when lowered properly its only when lowered by clicks that you get extra strain.

cheers for the info ;y: but im afraid its now at standard height front & back :') then to make the rest of the exterior origional and tidy bit by bit. then its time to start saving for a cam and i might look into running carbs. wanna go for a bit of a sleeper :)
