View Full Version : Not heating up

As above,
Just bought my 03 VTR and noticed the temperature never goes up.

At first i thought the guage just didn't work - Turns out it does.

When i leave it idling for a while it goes up, and then drops as soon as driven.

Courtesy of Shannon-ob I have a few spares now, but i'm thinking Thermostat stuck open?

No warning lights at all, and i figured running cold all the time will surely use more fuel?

Any suggestions?
Thanks

First port of call - Thermostat then haha I've got another one here that works so i'll stick that in - How much coolant do these take? I have 4.5 litres in mind but may be wrong

Cheers

Ran with cardboard Infront of my radiator and it was a load better, replaced the thermostat last weekend and so far so good, usually runs on the mid way line or fractionally below it, if left ticking over for a bit the fan cuts in then back off, seems right now

Thermostat was a fiver on trade in halfords plus the coolant well worth doing in the winter now!

Heaters have gone from warm to hot also, try the cardboard Infront of the rad see if that helps, helped me.

My thermostat was there with the guts removed because of some cheapskate basically, don't do the bolts too tight though, I snapped the plastic pipe, luckily I was at a mates who had a spare!
