hi, i have a mk 1 vts, just changed the gearbox for one which i think is out a mk2 vts, anyway i have got the gearbox on, bolted to the engine and on its mounts, and there is no room at all to put the linkages on, so i took the top mount off and let the box drop a bit so i could finally squeeze the linkages on, but now when i jack it back up the mount is not lining back up in the centre as i assume the linkage is hitting the bulkhead, also it will not go into gear as the linkages are just hitting the bulk head, its like the box is to big fur the space available even though its a saxo vts box ive put on, has anyone had this problem and know what i can do to fix it?
sorry for the essay ;) any help would be greatly appreciated as im at my whits end with it.
thank you

On the box you can move where the linkages go, unbolt the pin on the box and move it? Did you have to put them on yourself, check to see if they are in the same place as the old box.

Also is the gearbox mount (close to the exhaust) mounted correctly?

The boxes are identicle I've just changed one on mine and you must have gone wrong somewhere because I put the linkages back on when my box was on and both mounts were bolted in can you take pictures please?

lower gearbox mount may well be on upside down as previously said, its an easy mistake to make and would explain why the linkages are rubbing etc

gearbox is inside out...

Have you got the lower mount on correct (as previously mentioned) sounds silly but bell housing lined up correctly..? let us know how you get on...

thanks for the replies, i have just took the bottom mount off and tried to put it on the other way and it wont go on that way so i assume i have it on the right way to begin with, bytaylor is there a guide on how to do that, as i dont quite know what you mean?
would anyone be able to take a picture of theyre lower mount so i know for certain how its meant to look?
thank you every one for your help

thanks mate it looks like i did have it on correctly, how many bolts is it that hold it the gearbox on to the engine? as i took 4 out of the old gearbox, and now when i put them back in on the new gearbox i can only get 3 on, as the one just above that bottom mount doesnt seem have a hole for it, is it only 3 bolts for the mk2 gearbox's and 4 for the mk1s?
surely if ive got 3 bolts in the gearbox will be lined up correctly will it?
thanks for your help

Here's a quick picture of which way round the mount should go:

(stolen from Prickle's thread)

You should be able to make out which way from the picture, off the top of my head i couldnt explain it.

Mounts where linkages go:

Lower down the box where the linkages push onto you can move it up and down the box by unbolting and bolting in higher or lower.

However I suspect the mount is the wrong way round!

the bottom mount is on correctly as i tried to put it on the other way round and i couldnt do it so it must only go on one way :s and my gearbox doesnt seem to have the pin thats in the square on that picture, on mine is just a gold circle that sits a few mm in a bit, if that makes sense lol
