Put £20 of petrol in my car on Monday and I've driven the car to work on Monday, left it at home Tuesday and driven in today, normally it'll last me till Wednesday night/Thursday morning but noticed the gauge was telling me I had near the light by time I got to work! I know the petrol gauges ain't the most accurate dial in the dash but I would have no way used that much petrol for a day and half of commuting!

Normally do 36 miles daily and £20 gets me roughly 125 miles, but so far I've done 62 miles and the lights nearly on. I'm not thrashing it either as its motorway miles so I stick to 60/70.

Any ideas to what it could be?

I had this on mine, got 7 miles to a tenner!

I had te relay replaced, the multi function one. Not sure if this is the same issue.

Does it cut out at all or drop revs?

Have you ran it right down the red or anything? If I drive a bit on the red then put some petrol in it doesn't last, also runs shit for a while. Probably isn't this because I expect you would already know this haha

the fuel gauge is just that, a "gauge" and one i no longer fucking trust.

it's just total shite, never know when im about to run out of petrol, or if i have that extra mile/two before i have to fill up.

Could take sender unit out and check the float is moving freely?

Other than that it's prob just cheap french hatches doing their thing!

My misses must be French then coz she's just as indecisive! Lol

Think it's having a funny 5 minutes...again. Will check the sender but may just fill a jerry can up every time I get petrol!

There is pins on sender unit, and ever fraction of petrol is counted by the float pin which appears on guage so say you put 20 in that pin could be burn out then when u use most petrol your float could get a good connection on a pin and give you a acuurate reading on the guage, then you coul do 1mile and the rest of te pins could be burnt out, and tell you have no petrol at all, my sender used to only ever work on fill tank for about ten miles the go on red ontill about a tener left which is abput two bars or something, very crap saxo fuel guages lol brandnew or decent 2nd hand sender unit will make you happy always good feeling when you can relie on your guage on long jorneys i brough a car before said it had half of tank ontill i did about 3 miles an ran out of petrol got asked any petrol in it i said yeah half of tank, putt a 5va in and it started, thats just life lol
