197 cup is the rarest of the clios :)
obv don't own one, but been in a cup, and it's decent IMO!
I also think they're better VFM than the 200, a lot of 200's still seem really overpriced, and you've got to remember, in a few years time, they'll be worth what the current 1*2 prices are.
Recaro's are pretty shit too, side bolster padding is known to only last a few thousand miles, at best.
People always say the 197 is slower than the 182 etc, but on a track, the 197 isn't really slower. bigger car / wider track etc is from my experience more valuble than power to weight in a short, straight line.

The cup is very nice, being a cup (or trophy) im guessing there a bit out of my price range, insurance aswell.
Am i right thinking they came out in 2009? its a mk3 clio isnt it?
The ones with the side vents and rear diffuser. Ive fallen in love with how it looks, there is a blue one in a garage round the corner from me priced at £6450 or round about that.
I just want to stare at it all day.

that's a decent price.
one thing I would bare in mind though, I bet two years ago, that was closer to 9k...
depreciation on those cars is crazy.
No such thing as a 197 trophy, only a cup, or a F1 (f1 as far as i'm aware is no upgrade over the cup, other than stickers)
also, cup without the gay spoiler / side skirts looks better, IMO.

Oh yeah, tbh the price surprised me, I thought these clios would be at least 8/9k at this time!
So in a year or two maybe even 3k which seems very cheap.
Im in that mode where i just want want want but know I cant afford, im sure we have all been there.
On the lottery on friday....

My brothers got a 200 cup. He loves it. its fast and handles really well. Recarros are nice and comfortable but as said the side bolster wears through fast because of the hard plastic that theyre made of.

Im only 22 and have 6 points on the ole licence so unless i come into a surprise fortune i can centainly forget the cup and the recaros.
holding onto hope about the 197, if I keep saving and drive as a named driver, then maybe just maybe! Or am I dreaming

He had a ph1 172 before the 200. His insurance actually dropped when he got it which was a surprise lol.

I've been sifting through is progress thread and now my keyboard is wet with drool...
I just want to know how these people afford such things?
finance? Mummy and daddy? I work two jobs and still don't see how it could be possible with the cost of living and the price of weed these days. Haha.
I could always go back to the sax. Pick one up now fairly cheap, vtr wise anyway.

Do you have a particular budget? Looking at a Saxo (Wouldn't pay more than £1k) or looking at over £6k for a Clio... Rather different.
What're your needs and budget? Personally I am going to be biased and say for around £2kish you can pick up an EP2 Civic Sport which isn't terribly quick if that's what you're after but it's a lovely drive, look very pretty and good on fuel! Literally only had one a week but everytime I go outside and see it I feel like ramming my penis in the zorst, true story. :zainy:
Plus cheaper insurance than both a Clio and Saxo as it's insurance group 6 yo.

I love mine, paid 7.5k for it almost 2 years ago with 20k on it, not sure on todays prices but that may give you an idea!
My mate had a 182 and i let him drive mine, he loves it and says its a totally different car which it is!
Mine hasn't skipped a beat in 2 years! And now is upto 50kmiles!
Drives and handles like a dream!
Just got my insurance renewal which is £800 fully comp on my own policy with my dad as a named driver!
I have a dreadful licensecto with mobile phone convictions etc but no claims bonus of 4 years!
It eats tyres and i never have traction control on, handles like nothing else i've ever driven and can akways make me smile on the country lanes!
I'm getting rid soon though!
Moved into my own place and now dont drive into work, so can afford something a bit more immature!
Mpg on my clio sucked though, cost me £10 a day to do a 30mile commute to work! I averaged around 20mpg most of the time with city centre traffic and motorway combined! Tyres arent cheap either compared to 14/15inch tyres as you want a good set of rubber on them!
This shows how nice they can look....

Its the rarest as its poverty spec, saving a worthless 20kg.
Rather have air con, painted side strips/ door handles, keyless entry, electric mirrors, xenons, nicer dash, reach adjustable steering.
The recaros are not a huge deal, there cheap to fix also are covered under the extended warranty best of all they look awesome!
OP go for a full fat with cup chassis or F1 edition.
Ash the 200's are better they have more lower down torque some tweaking to the engine giving slightly better mpg also. Overall the 200 is the price the 197 was at the same age they depreciate alot but the 200 is the better car.

200 is a better car yes, but not better enough to warrent the extra - IMO of course.
as for the 197 cup being poverty spec? don't act clued up and then drop a stupid comment in there like that.
and lol at recaros being cheap to fix.

I'd forego the slight differences to have a better looking car. The 200 has a big fish mouth but the 197 is pleasant to look at

Its like going for a 182 then not warranting the extra for a 197 and so on and so forth...
Is it not cheapest version of the 197 including next to nothing therefore it has a poverty spec interior.
The clio forum has a registered trader that will fix worn bolsters for a couple of hundred. Considering the seats are worth around £1200 which would equate to 15% value i think thats reasonable.
