Nice set dropped a comment for him.... I do however, think house is so fuckin easy to mix its unreal. The big fat kick makes life so easy. Nevertheless good listen. Followed....

If you're into Liquid give this a spin. https://soundcloud.com/carl_djc/sets/mixes-and-demo-cds

Agree to a certain extent. . they mostly have really long and uncomplicated bars. However i think this makes it more of a challenge to make a good house mix.

true that.

any one can learn to match a beat, doesn't make them a good DJ or a good selector though...

I don't mean to sound rude, but you can't slate people for mixing an 'easy genre', and then link people to an awful mix.

Hold the phone. . you agree about something i said ;) :zainy:

But agree with ya, think most days its all about creativity, a decent set list and knowing how to keep a crowd is how to be a decent DJ as we are in the "midi" era now days. Being a learner myself, every club i go too i always peek at what system the dj is using and its all the same pretty much, laptop, midi cdj's and thats about it. Not that theres everything wrong with that, everyone has there own style and interpretation of what a "dj" is. If your enjoying yourself thats all that counts :)

yep, too many definitions of what a 'good DJ' is... I can't really speak for house, I've been to quite a few nights but i'm certainly not clued up on what's hot and what not etc.

But... I've been listing to dnb and a lot of 140bpm UK stuff for over half my life, I can honestly say there's only around 20 people in the scene I'd consider 'great DJ's', sure there's a load of good mixers but very few great DJ's in the game that bring something different, and are 'that name' that everyone wants to hear, and can change the dynamic of the night...

Yeah man, lived with a guy a few years back who was well into house music so kinda introduced me to it (not that I know anything about it) and he's good mates with Ben so met him through that. they both run nights here too. House scene in manchester is quite 'intimate'. A small world if you like.

In fact MCR scene is quite small in most genre's. I like it like that, everyones down to promote good beats for everyone, not many cliques - although lately everyone seems to have developed a dislike for Sankeys club / staff haha.

Working with the guys I do, id say that most of the bigger Djs still use rekordbox and either USB or SD card in the 2000s. Its probably about 1 in 8 that actually use either serato/ableton live/traktor.

You have some guys like Hawtin and Zabiela etc.. who are more into the tech than others but it generally is more of the cheap bard DJs I actually generally see with the most kit.

and if anyone ever wants to see a technically proficient DJ in action go to a gig where you can watch John digweed on the mixer. Working with John a is always a joy to watch.

PS - Ashley your mates with CODA I see, a very strong agency to have looking after him. He just needs some press pics ;)

haha ry ;)

to be honest I didn't know who he was with! I didn't even know Coda was that big, always knew a few dnb / dub guys were with that agency, but flicking through their roster I can see i've been fairly naive haha.

no such thing as easy genre, except maybe if you're mobile playing the macarena, YMCA and gangnam style back to back to back while shouting c'mon dance people and firing the air horn with the other hand. Any monkey can do that. Mixing house is subtle beyond your current imagination, knowing a few of them etc.

Check this guy out, he's been with Cream, Hedkandi and others http://www.house-mixes.com/Profile/Marc%20Stokes/play/95983

Well must be a lot different where you are. Round here, where its mostly commercial its all 2000's plugged into a mac running tracktor/scratch pro. But like i said, doesn't mean they're bad, some in fact put on a really good show. Although the best dj's i ever seen were in turkey haha. Love to to go to some of club islands during the summer to see what the standard is over there :)

And Manu, we were saying that House and i find especially deep house. . you can mix easier than say DnB and make it sound reasonable. However when its done really well, you can really tell they're decent! :y:

I work with some of the biggest djs in the world, not local club pop music cowboys.

Those that use macs at the top end are generally using Ableton live, but as mentioned rekord box is still king. Now they don't need a roadie carrying vinyl they just turn up with 2 pen drives.

Well you sounded very rude considering i didnt even slate the guy, In fact i commented and followed him.... clearly you didn't read the entire post.

I just made a point that hard hitting kicks make this sort of music very easy to lock, unfair point ? I don't think so.

The mix i linked is very old, I remember doing it early hours after sinking a fair few at the pub. To say its awful, I think thats a bit OTT. Yeah, its not brilliant and there's mistakes but do me a hours mix, entirely in your headphones, half sozzled and tell me you wouldn't make a mistake lol.
I'm human not a robot and I mix, not sync like lots people who get good rep these days.
