Any TV gurus on here?

Looking for a new TV for Xmas from the parents. Has to be 40"+, LED and Full HD.

However, does anyone know what the difference between 50hz, 60hz and higher is?

I just bought a full HD 40" LED sharp for my parents - £249! Some bargains to be found, my mrs used a vouchercode or something.

Lush TV too, plays divx/avi HD video off memory stick and is really thin.

The higher the refresh rate, the smoother fast moving scenes are.

basics are

response rate - lower better
refresh rate - higher better
contrast ratio - higher better

go on avforums.com and look around there for the best tv reviews

Cheers guys. My main concern was that alot of TV's seem to be 50hz yet the Xbox360 runs at 60hz.

That going to be an issue?

The reason a lot of TV's are 50hz is because they are cheaper. The frequency is one of the most overlooked but vital stats of a tv imo.

It won't cause a problem but the picture will be smoother the higher the number. A prime example is words running along the bottom of a screen. Seen how it isn't smooth on a lot of these massive TV's people buy, it skips across the screen instead of rolling smoothly? Because people buy the biggest screen size they can afford, without looking at the rest of the details.

Avforums has already been suggested. Very good site. Also, at the moment I seem to be getting sent a lot of tv deals through groupon. May be worth signing up.
