firstly, needed my 02 vtr's centre pipe welding to the downpipe

now, at 2000 rpm, any gear, there's a high pitch metal fizzing sound, like a sheet of metal shivering. higher or lower rpms, no sound...

cars been lowered 50 at back and recently, new anti roll bar mounts put in. made the rattle quieter but on unevn roads, makes a deep tone hollow rattle. exhaust mounts r fine, so it th stock exhaust system.

what's causing this? do i need a new exhaust sys or possibly new engine mounts?:wall: not throwing money around unless it sorts this problem out!

can you guess where abouts its coming from i.e front left rear right to help narrow it down. there is heat shields around the tunnel where the exhaust goes so check there as the bolts tend tobe missing

im feeling it's coming from underneath for the hollow sound but yes, front end for the high pitched noise. will check, cheers!

do you own a garage? might come over when im back home in a few weeks

if your struggling to narrow it down try jacking the front up and putting the car on axle stands then have the car running and have someone or yourself listen for the noise as this way you can if its engine related instead of trying to hear it through road noise. i was located in surrey but now temporarily located on isle of wight but plan on getting another workshop in surrey

sweet, when you're up n running, post here and i'll be on my way!

the heat shielding, rusted as it is, seems sturdy...

anywhere else to looks?

have you opened the bonnet and held revs on by pulling the throttle cable by throttle body. to see if its up front underneath also, take alook at the rear axle and see if the damper bolts are all the way home as these have a habbit of coming lose on lowered cars also see if the exhaust is touching anywhere or close. its hard to diagnose without hearing it :/ it wont be engine mounts as that drowns through the body and you get a clonk on hard acceleration.

Did you say ur front pipe is welded to the centrepipe? I would imagine this would make noise with engine movement with ther usually being a gasket?

yup, welded all together. narrowed it down to the rear axle. bearings inside have gone!

thanks for the help, , now i need a guide for removal and fitting!
