Just bought my VTS on Sunday so don't fancy the possibility of an icy crash!

Haha you're not wrong, I found out it was snowing via Facebook rather than my own eyes. I don't mind the snow at all, just hate the fact everyone panics and it causes so much traffic. My road is a private road and there was even traffic there because of everyone trying to get out and go to work lol

Don't drive if you can avoid it. Really not worth the risk.
If you need to, get a a mains adapter for the car (plugs into cigarette lighter) then use a hair drier and simply melt the snow or ice that you need to cross

Gears to slow you down, no sudden brakes or sharp steering use highest gears possible,if you slide let go of the wheel and just let it spin back and just plow on.

Just take it easy and stay in lowest gear, that's what I do and have never had an issue. Either that or just get a sledge lol

This. Fucking idiots everywhere sliding into each other. My usual 45 minute journey into work took just under 3 hours as retards block roads, crawl along at 5 mph, slide into parked cars and generally panic.
Fucktards.

Put a 5kg bag of cat litter in your boot + some cheap salt. Dirt cheap and effective. Also keep a couple of blankets just in case you get stuck, that saved my balls from freezing one night.

You should have put the blankets under the wheels for traction. (Depending on how stuck you where.)
I've been saved by car mats a couple times in the past. :homme:

When approaching the corner apply the handbrake. Shortly followed by opposite lock and then throttle.

Sorry I meant I was stuck on the motorway behind 2 million lorries, not getting anywhere. It was freezing but no snow, so the blankets came in handy that night...

Driving a fwd car in the snow is easy. Just plan miles ahead and it's a piece of piss. I can't wait for the snow now I've got the disco, gonna be fun!

yeah brought the range rover to work this AM thinking I'd need it (and I did down some of the back roads) but fuck me, there's some idiots out there... Driving your MX5 up a twisty single-carriageway lane in 2 inches of snow isn't smart. Worse is stopping, then starting again on said hill, only to slide the rear of the car into someone passing you... Stay home.
Carl-h
5th December 2012, 14:57
Haha glad my mx5's gone tbh. Although luckily it's only my road that isn't gritted on my route to work. I know the main roads can still get bad but they generally stay pretty clear here. Saying that ill be one of the first on the snow in the morning so it ought to be fresh rather than compacted and polished so there should be plenty of grip. I need to get a tow rope and earn some money ;)

Did this a few years ago, was avoiding everywhere the snow was deep and then came to a one way street, the tyre tracks were fine but the snow on the undercarriage was horrible and making a dragging sound.

Yeah that's the worst part haha, got home and my saxsport was hanging off and snapped/lost both front inner arches. Not impressed
