For someone to do that they must have already been in a very weak mental state.
The aussie DJs will face a very big backlash now.

It's a very funny scenario, been a lot worse hoax's and wind ups on people yet at the same time you must always be prepared you can push someone too far!!
Must of been pretty bad making such a fuck up, but as you say most of been lack of stability for someone to end it all due to embarrassment..
The queen fell for a similar prank herself if I remember correctly...

I'm thinking can the Australian DJ's be done for impersonating the Queen and Prince Charles? Must be some laws against obtaining info by impersonating someone, prank or not.
I'm also wondering if this nurse was facing some sort of legal/disciplinary action due to breach of confidentiality/DPA... So maybe she was about to get fucked for disclosing the info, prank or no prank...

I think the real question here is, was she hot?

7th December 2012, 15:49
I would have said that she would have got a ribbing of some of her colleagues that would contribute to it. Doesn't the article say that she forwarded the call? so she didn't actually give any information in that case.

It does, I swear that article has been updated with those details since I read it!
Maybe she was facing disciplinary then, although it does say they were helping her through it and not in any disciplinary action, but I suppose it doesn't mean there wasn't any planned... Surely not suicide over shame alone, unless the public were ribbing her in the street over it...

Yeah I cant say I think they're at fault entirely.
As a joke not particularly funny, but to think she fell for it... comical. However, for that to spiral into a suicide is a bit extreme !

According to reports I have read elsewhere no disciplinary.
Also the Person who has been found dead was the 1st person on the line not the person to give away all the info once transferred (although again im sure various news reports may differ)

That's a shame. Anyone would fall for the same thing, not like you'd question the queen to make sure it's her. I can phone up and pose as a relative to anyone in hospital and get information easily. Unfortunate that it all got too much for her. RIP.

Yeah, I read the original report before any names or anything was in it, didn't realise it had been updated!
Still wonder if the Aussie DJ's have broken any laws though... Impersonation to obtain information is against the law isn't it?

They didnt really gain any information though, the radio has a slightly delay on it when 'live' so if any information was released that could endanger the dutchess the clip would have been cut.

2dayFM if really is making money out of other peoples distress so its about time it came and bites them in the ass. They should have never done it in the first place and charges of invasion of privacy should be filed. But now after the death charges of manslaughter should be added as well in my opinion. The media should be held responsible for the damage they do.

totally aggree with the first part
the second part i dont,
by that logic if i made a joke about something/one..and they went and topped themself, id be liable to 4 years or so
if anyone is to blame for her killing herlself, its something thats happened prior to this, or the way shes been treat after
you cant blame someone making a daft phonecall IMO
they should be charged for what the DID do..and stand down from their job if not get sacked as a mark or respect

My thinking was as potentially this was in reaction to what on the face of it looked to be a unlawful act they would still be held liable for the outcome.
Its a bit like if you are committing a robbery and some one tries to stop you. If there is a fight and you end up killing them you cant use self defense as justification. This as the criminal act you started was the catalyst for all that resulted.
So the unlawful invasion of privacy and resulting media coverage looks to have put such pressure on this women. Yet rather then trying to put it right 2dayFM continued with twitter and other media slating this nurse. Ending in the nurses death. Hence 2dayFM actions are likely directly related to her death. Perhaps not full manslaughter but at the very least they should have some legal responsibility for it.
blackie_2k5
8th December 2012, 00:13
i agree again, and they should be fined.......and the two in question should be sacked/made to stand down
BUT..you cant also compare it to a robbery and a self defense killing, they couldnt have predicted this, and im sure theyre shitting their pants at the though of how its going to pan out for them

IMO it's all a bit odd, if the nurse was mentally weak enough to do this surely she would have done it sooner when patients in her care died.
I personally think the royals will be behind it and as for the police report saying 99% unsuspicious well are they really going to go against the queen.
Manu
8th December 2012, 13:23
Poor girl probably got a massive bollocking, and then the media jumped on the wagon. That said, pretty dumb move to disclose confidential medical information to someone calling up pretending to be HM The Queen. What a major backfire cockup on every side.

Maybe the two Aussie presenters should have a member of their family tormented to suicide, see if they can see what they've done wrong then.
Fucking disgusting, I can't believe it's even questioned for a second "if" they have done anything wrong/illegal.

2 wrongs doesn't make a right tbh, these two DJs are already facing losing a lot and living with it. When a prank of that proportion backfires, they'll end up with a few new assholes down their bottoms and a lifetime to deal with it. Idiot bushwackers are in the ride they created.

Very true mate, and realistically I agree with you... But emotionally I feel as if these guys need to learn a lesson, they will get what's coming to them hopefully.
The more I read about it the more fucked up it seems, I don't believe for a second it's a royal conspiracy but I can see why the tin foil hat brigade are rubbing their hands together at the premise of this story.

8th December 2012, 13:54
Don't mea to take the piss. But no one on here played a prank or acted stupid?
I'm not saying what they did was a good idea. But they had no way of possibly knowing it would go like this. Just made a prank phone call. Yet for the rest of their lives will have to live with this looming over them.
Can't not blame the media in this either. If they didn't blow the call way out of proportion like the media did. She might still be alive.

Not being funny but those who are saying all the hate against the djs need to really come back into the real world.
It was a minor prank, what they did was hardly anything to write home about - I see much more offensive things written on forums every day.
Its sad that someone felt the need to take her life over it but they hardly rang up spouting hatred against the royal family etc..

Why would I need to "come back into the real world" based upon my opinion that these guys are the root cause.
They played a joke in bad taste, on someone who has never done anything to them- and it had horrific repercussions.
Well done for seeing offensive things on forums every day, if something you said caused someone to top them selves- would you not attribute some of the blame to yourself? Or would you cast it off as "someone else's doing"?
Sure they aren't the only ones to blame, but would we be blaming anyone at all if they hadn't been so selfish in humiliating an innocent party on the other side of the world for "entertainment".

The Nurse must of been in a fairly poor mental state long before this prank call. Yes, I imagine she got alot of pressure from senior / high ranking staff. But the Radio DJ's don't deserve half of the hate they are receiving for this.
Media scape goats ... Again
dondan
8th December 2012, 22:33
I agree that she potentially was in a very volatile mental state, but even if it was just the last straw which broke the camels back... The DJs involved are the ones who cast it the way I see it.
RIP to the nurse, she obviously didn't need that phone call in her life.

Not just the incident.
It's all just speculation but mental problems/emotional problems possibly already had a grip on her and this just tipped the balance.
It's very sad no matter who's to blame or the reasons behind it.

I agree. It was a prank, of which when first broadcast a few people I know found funny. They wasn't to know she would top herself. It's just blown way out of proportion.
I heard some guy on radio one iirc, do a prank on his misses or somet. These things happen all the time thats radio DJs for you, it's all banter. Then the media hype the death out the story like they killed her themselves.

No one really cares over here, at the end of the day it was a joke, a prank, as everyone knows the ozy's are laid back and just having a joke.
It's funny how everyone's jumping at the conclusion that it must have been the phone call that made her commit suicide but so far no one even knows what happened let alone the cause
Also - if anyone has actually heard the impersonation it was absolutely terrible, and the fact she fell for it is laughable

If the answer to that is 'no', what do you propose happen? Ban practical jokes? Put the two DJs in prison? What?
The question only stands if you're intent on blaming someone for something that nobody could have anticipated and that's wrong in my opinion.
I would say though that 'pranking' a hospital is a pretty uncool thing to do.

That's the thing though, it is impossible to say either way. No-one will ever know if the poor woman was going to top herself that day anyway and the prank was just poorly timed.
Or if she was in a very bad state of mind and the joke pushed her over the edge.
That's the sort of stuff that will need to be looked into etc. I can't say either way, and I'm not trying to.

Major shame this.
However they did get the prank passed through the legal department of the radio.
It was clearly a joke. If people were like this nurse, then come April the 1st every year suicide rates would be insane.
R.I.P to her anyway as it really didn't need to go that far. Every life lost is a tragedy.
But to the people saying the DJ's have blood on their hands. Get real.
I find it very odd that no cause of death has yet to be announced. That might help determine what happened a bit better

I heard this recording on youtube earlier, simply answered the phone and re directed the call, if anything it was he nurse who had the lengthy conversation who should be laughed at for believing the call.
I agree however that she wasn't "right" before this, nobody in their right mind would take their own life over something so trivial.
