+1... This is all you can do to be honest. Everyone should know how to carry out a citizens arrest. I don't but am going to find out!

Obviously, you can't rugby tackle the peep, but it would be handy to know how and what legal things you need to know and comply with to save yourself from prosecution for wrongfully arrest/ false imprisonment.

I saw a citizens arrest about 3 week ago actually...

some chav twat on his £50 dual suspension bike pedling thru a town like a maniac and ploughed straight into an old woman and floored her...

It was quite busy so in an instant crowd formed and guy grabbed the chav and made him sit on the floor, the police came and cuffed him and chucked him in the back of the car whilst the paramedic tended to the old woman...

Happened right outside costa coffee so it was quite a good day for people watching :y:

Just try not to cut, bruise them etc as if it's their word against yours the scumbags normally come out victorious these days!!

You can claim self defence, if you want to punch him if... if... 'you were iminent danger/fear for your personal safety'. Say he was using the key as a weapon and you had to dis-arm. The popo won't do much, you might get 15 quid if the courts do him/her.
Better just flooring them, then raid their wallet, then get where they live off their liscence, then kick them on their way.

Edit: pretty much correct what people have been saying on here. You can do a citizens arrest for 4 reasons.
To prevent someone making off before a PC resumes responsibility.
To prevent someone causing loss or damage to property
To prevent someone suffering physical injury
To prevent a person causing injury to themselves or others

If you're going to sit on someone just make sure they can breathe properly otherwise they could suffer from positional asphyxia

I know someone who performed a 'Citizen's arrest' and had this person pinned down whilst on the phone to the police. Apparently the police told him he had to get off him until the police arrived. By which time he was long gone.
