This is my view too. When the Mayans made the calendar there was no July or August (invented by Julius and Augustus Ceaser from what I've read) so therefore, if they were correct, it should have happened a long time ago! Plus they never took into account leap years etc so I reckon it's all bollox. Surely we would have heard something on the news etc by now! Really hope it doesn't happen, can't be doing with dying at work! Haha

The mayans didn't take any of your rubbish into account. The fact they had their own calendar totally negates leap years, extra months etc. It's simply been calculated that the Mayan calendar ends on the 21st December 2012, being the winter solstice on our modern calendars.

Anyway, the world ends 31st december because that's when my calendar ends.
