View Full Version : oppinions on the 1.6 16v citroen c4 loeb ed'

basically my insurance runs out in feb and the 106 will be pulled off the road and become a balls out track car.
so to replace it im looking for something sporty looking, easy to work on, spacious, and reasonably nippy, and cheap to insure. which the c4 loeb ticks in all my eyes.
the car will be used as my daily but will also be my tow vehicle for race days so must be able to fit 10 alloys and a tool kit in the back, and whilst used as a daily id like it to handle well and still put a smile on my face.
so oppinions of driveabilty, comfort and so on :) (from exp')

Don't think you could fit 10 alloys in there..
Nice enought car though but I'm going to be captain obvious and say vag, bmw, Volvo, sabb estate

i know the wheels would be a bonus and the boot space is freking huge but the wheels could always go in the tow car or on the trailer.
ive also found they do a 1.6hdi version with nearly 75% more torque :)
i know vag is better but i love the look of these and insuarnce for me is dirt cheap :)

I bet the diesel version would remap nicely!!

id not even considered that :fcuk: do we know if the newer pug ecu's can be mapped? it would be nice to squeeze a little more power out of it :)

don't get the 1.6 hdi, it has issues.
if you're not doing that many miles then the petrol will suffice, they aren't that far behind on mpg.
yes they will remap.

for about the same costs i can put the 2.0 16v 180bhp petrol on the road but it dosnt come in the red above :( haha

1.6 16v is pretty slow and the chassis isn't all that.
But if you like the look and insurance is cheap, then do it :y:

why didnt i think of that!
so would the 2.0 petrol be better for towing than the 1.6 diesel even tho it has 40ish less torques?

the insurance for the 1.6 petrol and diesel are the same and is 60% less than what im paying on my 106.
and the insurance for the 2.0 is £500 less than my 106 :)

i know! ive had 1 seat and no cd player for over a year haha so anything is a bonus, but i think this is a nice upgrade without going to far away from the 106/saxo scene as it still uses the same engine and so on :)

Get the 2.0 petrol, the rest are slow. Shares the same lump as my car EW10J4S. It's abit slower because of the extra weight but they are definitely the quickest variant.
160-175 bhp stock unless you get a lemon.

Haha, I'm still wondering what will be lolol.
I did notice the forums been flooded with some really faffy names and a relatively mediocre sized thread on the subject. LOL. I find it funny how Sax-P has always been slated by moaners well at least it certainly was way back when. And now they are all fleeing like rats on a sinking ship.
Btw guys, don't take me seriously, you couldn't even begin to imagine how much I don't give a fuck lol.
Glad your christmas was good dude, mine was sweet literally lazed around and spent moneys lol!

177 ps.
What do the owners make on RR on these? most 180 owners make between 165-175 - some shite ones make 160 but not seen lower myself.
If they do make near that they must have very good mapping, as even if you cammed it & had exhaust and filter you'd struggle for 200.

Sounds like you had a good one. Car related goodies.. not sure if I told you I got an E46 M3? Not sure if you were still kicking about then, was about a month ago. Hows the schekshy Pug? Still detailing her like a pro I hope :y:

are these the same engines in the 206 gti 180's then? ive not done much research into the power as im not massively fussed aslong it can tow reasonably when called upon.
and ive not asked on the RR as i thought id get more oppinions on here with more chance of people owning one due to the numbers on here

Nice car, didn't know you had that bad boy :) Do love a good M3 my mates got a supercharged silver one. Haven't been out in it yet though lol. Pug's ok same old really, needs some tyres but it's all good. I actually cleaned it yesterday lol.

Yeah same engine as the 180. They make between 165-175 in reality. They are 177ps on paper. I would say they should be able to tow lol.

ahh cool ive just done quotes on a few other models and the 2.0 HDI is the same to insure as the 1.6hdi and has plenty more power. and has a 6speed box for motoways

2.0 HDI would be good on fuel and can be mapped well from memory, again another thing out of a 206 :) *unless it's different* which I doubt lol.
180 lump is juicy though. Will say that.

ive had no exp' of either but ill take your word for it ;) its a shame they dont fall into the 106 as that would be nice!
but yeah the 2.0 hdi is winning my vote at the mo, just need to decide which colour i like best :homme:

180 lump in a 106 would be ridiculous lol There is a guy knocking about on here with one in a 205 GTI, IIRC was ITB'd now it's charged! must go like diarrhoea out of an inflamed ass hole.
In reality, if you're towing, HDI all the way. 180 lump will chew through fuel for shits and giggles without towing!

A mate had one of the 2.0 models and neither of us rated it tbh. Max braked towing weight is 1200kg on the 1.6 and 1300kg with the 2.0, so bare that in mind. Diesels are generally better for towing, not just the torque but a heavier clutch also. You'd be better off with an estate Aaron! ;)

i know i know haha just cant bring myself to own a estate or a van just yet, so im looking into bigger hatchbacks like the c4, focus, astra and the c4 comes out ontop for me :zainy: its even by far cheaper on insurance and better looking
think im just too young for an estate

You're looking at the wrong stuff. imo ;)
Peugeot 405 estat, DTurbo.
tow anything, 50mpg and good for tuning. fun to drive, surprisingly fast due to them being quite light.

That's exactly what you need! Loads of room for tools parts and tyres. I'm loving the new Volvo, pulls like a train and can be mapped to 170bhp and 380 torques! Comfy as hell and 50+ to the gallon. ;)
