MK4 1.8t lump. Gives good power, not expensive to upgrade and you can see good power. If you want to spend a lot then you can see a lot more power so win win. Solid engine, very tunable and it keeps it all Golf.

The new thing is the TSi engine conversions. Spotted one on FB the other day.

For out and out power, nothing I can think of comes close to the BAM lump that was in the Leon Cupra R's (and as above, pretty much every other VAG car) - there's one near me that's pushing 320bhp on standard internals :sweetheart:
I love those things, but the 3.2 V6 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20Vj7BUAGms) out of the R32/Cayenne/Touareg does sound mighty fine... :D

Just for the batsh!t mentalness, what about the v10 diesel from a tourag? No idea what gearbox you could use to make it fwd but it would be funny as f*ck!
Btw, I've seen someone fit a rover v8 (complete with honking great twin su's) into the front of a mini with no bulkhead mods so nothing is impossible. ;-)

The wiring and electronics are an absolute c**t to get working when transplanted!

Or if its an uber mint show shell, something flashy with TBs or carb'd always looks good.

Vr6 is suppose to sound lovely aswell. What about an focus st engine? Or a megane 225?
They do mate but they were 'only' 170bhp new IIRC - finding one that's done less than 100k might be nigh-on impossible due to the age of the car. The R32 lump came out with 250bhp and you could get lucky and get a low mileage one from a car's that's been rear ended.
I wouldn't bother with an ST or 225 lump personally - there was the V5 used for the TT/Golf/Toledo so you can stay in the VAG stable and potentially save yourself some hassle. I'm not all that technically minded I wouldn't want to say for sure :)

I was going to say STi and 4wd, seen a few in mk1's but would need "a bit" of fabrication lol! Be worth it though.
1.8T looks the favourite doesn't it. I think you get get some pics up anyway, I love mk2's
I'm going VAG for my next project.

Tbh the VR6 mk2s I've seen aren't as quick as I'd have thought.
The 1.8T swap is done to death and for good reason.
