I tired to post this in the track section but it wouldnt allow me for some reason anyway...

How have people done this, material used, method used, costs etc.

I have been looking on ebay and plate is around £48 then all i need to is tiger seal and rivet it in but can it be done for cheaper?

Thanks
Jay

Sure it can be done for less,

Buy a sheet of aluminium or steel and cut it yourself :p Aluminium would probably be a better choice imo as it's lighter and won't rust.

then seal and rivet :)

I suppose the cheapest would be plexi glass. BUT it has a habit of cracking around the rivets and hence back to square one with a leaking roof! :fcuk:

i have an ally plate at home off a friend for free. being fitted this weekend. think its 3mm. tiger seal and rivet. easy job to do and loads cheaper.

Plexi from wickes, enough to do the sunroof was 25~ ish or probably less I cant remember. Make sure you seal the rivet/bolt holes well

I thought 3mm may be a bit thick for ally.

Will have a look see what i can get hold off.

Cheers

1.6 mm should be adequate, you're not armour plating it lol

Have you got a link to the £48 sheet?

£300 no thanks that is a expense that isnt needed it will be a race car not a show car.

The plate I was looking was for a civic after messaging the guy the dimensions don't fit the saxo.

I'm just going to buy 1.5mm ally and drill and rivet it myself, if it turns out good I could possible make them for people if they would be interested.

it will be a race car not a show car.

most race series state the panel must be welded in if you blank the sunroof
so you would be best of going this route
rather than attempting to weld up the hole and just warping the fuck out of your roof

weld a 2mm steel plate over the hole, smoot off and use abit of filler, paint to protect against rust then just slap some vinyl over the top.

thats if it needs to be welded for your race series.

if not then theres surely someone near where you live that sells ally sheets, just do as you said and bond and rivet it over the hole.
