View Full Version : Fog lights to main beam

As above
I like this feature on the 106 even though they're driving lights not fogs
I'd like the saxo to do this, I don't use the fogs, they're a little gay anyway so I wanna utilise them with my main beam and when I flash my lights
Obviously I'd replace the stalk with a non front fog one but what else do I need to do? Can I just link the fog live with the main beam live at the switch, or is there more to it?
Thanks

But then I turn them off when cars come so who's ever gonna know?

The MOT tester?

It's not the gain as such I just like it, they can be adjusted a little bit anyway I'm not too worried I just like the feature, MOT test is once a year I can soon get around that once a year, as the fogs aren't part of a test anyway...
Just asking the question that's all

Why do it if you turn then off every time a car comes towards you if your behind them who would see them?

Front fog lights don't really come into the MOT, the pattern isn't tested so it could be treated as fog OR a spotlight. Only the rear fog light gets tested iirc.
You can link them up to beam and it should be fine for MOT.
I'd use a signal wire from the main beam on the loom through a relay, so the load isn't directly on it as it'll probably blow a fuse. If it does cause a problem at MOT time then simply fit a switch inline with the relay.
As mentioned, it's not going to be much benefit anyway unless you change the lenses/units for clear ones - in which case you turn them into spotlights making them "legal" anyways...

there was a thread with a little guide on here a couple years ago, have a quick search its definitely about somewhere i just cant remember the name
i never knew it was standard on a 106 :S
i think its quite a good idea, that extra bit of light for that brief moment you put your mains on

It's only standard on models with "sport" body as standard. i.e quikky and GTI. so they come on with main beam.
the poverty spec 106's have switchable front fog lights :y:

I don't see what everyone's problem is? You don't use main beams when anyone is around anyway :Z once you've done it mate lemme know I'm kinda interested.

Thanks guys, yeah I agree - there's some adjustment on them isn't there so I can aim them a touch better?
Not too sure how to go via a relay in all honesty but yeah as said its just the little more light and I like them all flashing when I flash my lights etc
