Just wondering what systems you guys have and if any of you are gamers with big systems.
I'm not a gamer myself but i have a pretty good system for my music production.
Asus p7h55 / usb3 mobo with an over clocked i5 to 4.2 GHZ and 16GB 1600 Ram, all in a case that is basically future proof regarding upgrades.

What you guys got ?

I USED to be quite big on this, but I soon Got bored of having the latest and greatest for just a week, the tech moves too quick and something worth £300 a week later is worth half that because a newer version is released.

This is true. Its difficult to keep up but as long as my system is good enough for me i dont really care about having the latest just for the sake of it.

I also used to be into my power hungry pc's.
I built my last pc in 2007 but its still better than a lot of pc's my friends or family have. My geek friends hes got a mega computer with that case from the first post.
My pc from 2007
Asus mobo p5q
Dual core intel cpu cant remember which one but its overclocked from 1.8ghz to 2.8ghz
Gpu nvidia gts8800 640mb
8gb corsair xms ddr2 ram
Corsair tx 6xx psu
I used to play call of duty series on it. But i saw the light of day and bought a xbox 360 and which i love and doesnt need upgrading every 2 mins. Was a good pc and is still serving me well 6 years later

Yeah, stable at 4.8 Ghz (its the black edition so unlocked) have had it at 5-5.1 ghz but not entirely stable for gaming to be honest :y:

Yeah, sometimes they're alright for a bit then they do crazy things like BSOD randomly and shit.

Definatly, then i had a right game with the computer after building it, kept getting disc read error, thought the SSD was bollocks'd but i forgot to set the BIOS to AHCI as the sata type lmao :fcuk:

yeah probably over a £1000 just on the internal components alone (£400 on Gpu's) its better than my ps3 so dont really use that anymore :afro:

Yeah there's no point having the top spec gpu if your not using it to game, what sound card you got?

I have a pair of studio monitors with an interface inside at the moment. So the sound is actually on board, but i dont use it ever.

Time for a timewarp.
P4 (3.2GHz) 2Gb DDR2 and SSD of some capacity and a decent graphics card as the onboard was shit (my PC has sat on the floor doing nowt for about a year so can't remember the details lol)
Last time I checked I can play minecraft on full settings at a half decent frame rate and manages full HD no problem on playback. :D
Going back in time even further, I've got Windows 98se running on a Pentium with FSB overclocked from 66MHz to 75MHz which iirc brings it up to about 300Mhz ish? and I've got a TURBO setting as well ;) all in the name of using an RS232 port... fml. boots in under a minute though! Old skool with jumper pins for overclocking :P It's just about capable of loading Facebook.
I need to get back into PC's, laptops do me nut in!

I remember when people used to over clock the first generation celeron 300A. That's gotta be 1998 or just after, Jesus I feel old

I have a gt 530 and I don't game, but it plays crysis 2 maxed which seems to be a good benchmark these days and it cost me fuck all...
Still miss my 8800gt2 though smashed everything I put to it in the 3 years I had it.

How hard is it overclock your processor? Is it a do it yourself job or is it better to take it to a specialist and have them do it?
Also could some of you guys gimme a good suggestion on a Graphics Card upgrade for my current rig? I have a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT620 at present and its shit, the windows graphics score it gets is shocking so looking to upgrade to something more powerful.
My PC's specs are:
MSI B75MA-E33 Intel® B75 uATX Motherboard
Intel® Core™ i5-3470 Quad Core Processor
8GB DDR3 Ram
1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT620
1TB harddrive
Any help would be great guys!

Usually you overclock from your BIOS, so it depends on the firmware it has.
Access the BIOS by hitting Esc or F2 etc on boot up right after POST bleeps. go around the menus, most have a description at the bottom and you'll see some shit to do with clocks, CPU settings etc.
You go in there and change the mulitplier in small steps. if you do it too much your system will either overheat or be very unstable.
I'm sure there are other ways of overclocking but that's how I'd do it as a basic.

Yeah... Some BIOS are different Dave99. I suggest first you read on the net and understand what its all about before actually messing with settings.
Thats not demeaning you, I just know people who've changed a setting and immediately after their PC dont boot. Its very easily done.
Some boards will try to boot, if it doesn't work, they'll revert to BIOS defaults so you have a bit more le-way, however if your PC boots with too much CPU voltage you'll have problems.
You wanna look at BCLK and Multiplier ..... Thats if your board words it like this. Sometimes it can say Ratio instead and other variations.
So a BCLK of 160 and a multiplier at 20.0 would be 3200.... I.e 3.2 GHZ. But there is other things to consider like Volts. A CPU can have more voltage than stock, but not too much. Too little and it wont run properly at 3.2ghz. So as stated above, change in little increments.
There are also other things to consider like your RAM speed, volts and latency. You can force your ram to run at 1600Mhz, because even some 1600 modules will only run at 1333Mhz by default.
Edit - Your i5 shoud clock lovely.
Martin is right, do it from the BIOS. You're underselling it mate. Bios is probably the only way you know exactly whats been changed. There are some Auto clock features on boards and also programs that will over clock for you but based on my experience they arent always that great. For instance you may bet BSOD on an intensive program or something. Can be quite random too.

CPU - AMD Phenom II 550 x2 BE
Cooler - Titan Fenrir
Mobo - Asus M4A785TD-M EVO

Clocked from 3.1 to 3.8ghz, was solid 10+ hours in prime95, had to drop to 3.6 last year as stability became a problem.
Need to build a new one tbh, had this 3 years now
