View Full Version : Saxo VTS better than 205 gti 1.9?
AliVTS

I always thought they were both evenly matched with acceleration, top speed, handling, braking etc...
Only Difference I noticed was the feel through the steering wheel of the VTS was never like the 205 gti, so if i was to put a non power steering rack on the VTS would this make the difference.

no one is a 1.6 and the other is a 1.9 so there is gong to be some different in power

But then 1 is an 8v and 1 is a 16v.
Whats the difference between the 2?? About 6 bhp??

What went wrong after that , who knows ??
205 was an epic car, especially as T16

R5 turbo was a legend from the same era, i nearly bought an ex 5 turbo cup race car a few years ago
Unfurtunately the deal went sour and i bought another toy
But the 205 was the original along the the R5 and the visa gti
That was when french hot hatches ruled

I love my 205! I have the 1.6 GTi which I'm goin to use as a track toy/drag slag. Bought it for £450 off ebay last year but she needs a fair bit of work. These cars where the ones to have and made when Peugeot where at their peak. They knew they were onto something with the old Talbot Samba ( the car that the 205 was developed from) then they did it again with the 106 GTi but the new cars of today just don't have the recipe. What made the 205 so fun and good to drive was its light weight (well under 900kg) total lack of electronic equipment, a revvy and willing engine and the styling. The 106/Saxo are the last in the line of the true "pocket rocket" cars. Your not a true petrolhead until you have owned one of these road going go karts. 205 GTi Rules!

so whats quicker, the 205 gti 1.9 or saxo VTS?
welshpug
28th January 2013, 18:52
1.9.
vts can use less fuel on a run, equipment wise they are pretty similar, leccy windows, pas, sunroof, half leather/full leather, rare ABS which does jack  very rare aircon.
205 suspension is far better to work on and for upgrades, beams last a lot longer and are cheaper to fix.

There so similar to the 106/saxo.
0-60 is the same at 7.6 seconds on the 1.9.
Not sure why everyone goes off about their weight, furio is 840kg the 205 is 875kg.
They are fun cars very similar to a saxo. Saxo looks better the 205 looks more square like a nova, although i do like it i would never own one.

205 gti in all shape and forms, takes work to get the best out of them but they are much more rewarding to drive than 106s and Saxos.
My old 205.... best car I have ever owned.

I never said it was just giving a comparison of weight. Everyone thinks they are literally the lightest car going, just goes to show there are lighter cars.
Yes the vts is 935kg they are still the same speed.

29th January 2013, 10:46
205 just has so many more options on what you can do, for not alot of money you can have a 2.0L varient in there and they are alot quicker than a vts then!

Well you might want to compare like for like
The 205 Rallye was around 790 kg. Still lighter than the Furio. I got our old one down to 750kg with driver!
Of course there are lighter cars out there but its not really relevant to this topic.
