saxo vtr wont select reserve gear

I bought a VTR recently and the neutral on it seems very wobbly and moves up and down the box a lot, the car isnt the best getting into gear bit wobbly as well and it is very very difficult to select reverse gear, would say its not possible, but after much messing around i managed to get it into gear but then not done it again after that,

It only has 69,000 on the clock genuine miles so not been to the end of the world.

Any ideas? I think it may be the linkage or something?

linkages shot or even fallen off, golf ball worn, play in the selector arm and roll pin too

in the mean time try getting it as far into reverse as you can, bring the clutch up a tad and then fully depress it. Might go in then. Works on mine so worth a go.

it just wont even get near the reverse gate, no matter how hard or far you pull it over to reverse, it always just goes into fourth, got under it and the linkage looks rather wobbly when your selecting gears
