I never thought I would be saying this but after several happy years with Brentacre and the top class service I received (as well as the many referrals they received) I have today left them for a broker I did nothing but slag off after a previous issue!
Reason? It seems that all insurance companies are now the same!
Brentacre's renewal cost was significantly higher than other quotes I had for the same car yet weren't prepared to move on the cost.
Car in question: Octavia vRS 2004, modified... I have 11+ years no claims and a full clean licence, with just one fault claim from 4 years ago, which was caused due to mechanical failure and not driver error!
Brentacre managed to quote £539.99 which was still about £70 more than a quote from another company. I did a bit of ringing around and CK managed to get me a better deal with unlimited miles, mods, class 1 business use and wifey as a named driver all in for £487.50 with the same underwriter as Brentacre!!!
When asking Brentracre if they could get close to £500 I was basically shrugged off as though they didn't want the business and have to say they seem to have expanded rapidly over the last 12 months as I spoke to at least 3 others I hadn't healt with previously just getting the quotes!
So, are Brentacre outgrowing their small business, personal service status in place of a bigger, for profit rather than reputation style company? I hope, for the sake of their current policy holders, not! If so, it will be a real shame.
Anyway, the be all and end all is that I have the Skud missile, insured with mods, with the wife as a named driver and unlimited milage, including business use for less than £500. All in all a pretty worthwhile exercise.
I just hope now that CK's customer service has improved MASSIVELY since my last coming together with them

I got mine today too, price wasn't special (found it £200 cheaper online).
Did you notice they now charge for an adjustment fee? Nothing was mentioned when I switched to the Alfa in October.
Probably wont bother with CKI or Flux, which leaves Sky. They'd better be as good as people make them out! (Hi Oli!)

Yeah me too! The only reassurance I have is that if I were with Brentacre I would also have the same issue as they are both underwritten by LV
Really?

Did you try an Admiral multicar quote?

Did you try an Admiral multicar quote?
No. But when the Golf is back out of the bodyshop I'll be ringing around for a seperate classic car policy on that and comparing it with what CK offer mirroring my no claims

I'd suggest trying Multicar. I've got the Fiesta and S15 insured for less than I had the S15 on its own previously!

Using the Multicar policy saved me and the other half a lot of money, I just hope the renewal price in June isn’t stupidly high :)
They also allow you to start one policy and the second car to join the policy midway though but both gain a years NCB.

Hi Chris
Please don't forget our insurance scheme - we have no problem with postcodes :)

I will assume our criteria was not met, possibly postcode risk related. There are some awfully high-risk postcodes in the West Yorks area, some we do not touch.
Thanks for giving us a try though

Brentacre are a broker, their hands were most likely tied but I'd be interested to see if the underwriter picks up on the fact that your new broker have undercut their own rate. The rate may possibly be withdrawn.

Don't get why you would go to a company you did nothing but slag off. Leaving one you said were great, but getting bigger, so you felt neglected, to one who you said were shit

I did call and your quote wasn't quite as comical as Sky but still considerably more than Brentacre were offering so I took it no further

The underwriter undercut a quote from AXA, based on the fact I was more than prepared to return the car to standard if it was going to save me considerably

All crooks, and they all have nice explanations for their sharp business practice. My mother called for help after one of these companies decided to treble her premium, she has a lifetime of no claims and stayed with the same company for a few years.
She tried to get in touch with them for a few days, until the phone bill itself went up 15 quid, and no one with a clue on the other side of the line. "I'll pass you onto my colleague who will be able to tell you why" aka hang to dry for 15 minutes with some shitty, 30 second bit of music on loop. "we'll call you back", never happens.
So I told her to get a new insurance policy and cancel them like a stamp. "oh please, would you mind waiting 2 minutes while I'll get hold of a manager who will be able to provide a lower quote for you." Too late you twats, the new policy has been paid for in full. F off directline.
Back on topic, every time I tried a krisnot quote, it was at least twice as much as the competition. Therefore, did not touch with a barge pole. Same goes for skyhighinsurance.

Hi Manu
That's why, with our insurance scheme, we have a dedicated team, and a freephone number as well!
Manu

Hi Tim.
With experience, I found out insurance companies are much quicker to point out their strengths rather than their flaws. "This is why we are better than X or Y". To be honest, providing a dedicated team with a freephone is the least you should do, considering I can't get a quote from your website. Then I can't access information such as how much you charge for a windscreen, or do you do no claims protected, do you take more than 5 years no claims into account etc.
I might give you a ring at some point, then we'll see what happens. While I may sound harsh, keep in mind this is nothing personal, only business.

Totally understand, and that's why I was pointing that out about a dedicated team, etc, because I agree with you :)
We prefer people to ring us for a quote because we have flexibility from the 'screen rate' whereas any online quote wouldn't.
Also, we are happy to inform or email people about the details of the policy when we've made contact.
Look forward to helping you ;)

Yeah, I also did notice that staff always had the "ability" to influence how much it would cost, or call the manager when they don't have clearance. I'll have a sniff around when the time comes, but I can tell you already that I will be carrying 22 NCB. So I'm obviously looking after a company that will take this into account.

Do they deal with modded cars then?

Im not 100% sure the two cars ive got insured with them are both fully standard. On there website it gives the option to add modifications, buts it normally says you need to ring them.

Yes they do. The S15 is with them :y:
I think they might have a limit to number of mods though so it might be an issue depending on how much you have.

I'm disgusted with Brentacre as of last Friday when they refussed to renew my policy due to someone crashing into me last November. Considering I had been with them for 4 years I'm not happy at all. How can someone crashing into me make me a liablilty to insure? Guess its their loss and I'll never be going back or referring people to them.

Definitely go to a specialist classic/modern classic insurer for the Golf Craig. The lowest I could find anywhere for the more generic insurance companies for the AX was £300 (that was Admiral as an addition to my multi car policy- lowest as a single car was £330)
So went through the modern classic route with Lancaster for £160 full comp for the year with an agreed value and all the other usual perks. That was of course for 0 no claims aswel (my other no claims are of course already used up for each of the cars with Admiral policy)
