mot fail Rear axel

Hi my mk2 2002 vts failed mot because off to much play on the offside rear axel assembly, would this mean i definatley need a new axel to pass ? recently had a burst shock on the rear think this could have damaged something on that side

There's refurbishing guides mate, you can do it yourself if you have the tools and a day to do it, but if your pins are worn you'll be needing a new axle, as far as I know you need something like a 4ton press to replace the pins..

Slight play would be an advisory...as would 'some play' if it were not major. But Excessive movement/play would fail:y:
