Handbrake suddenly really stiff

For some reason my handbrake seems stiffer.

My brakes seem fine, no noises from the brakes etc so any ideas?

Does it feel tighter? ie; Doesn't take as many clicks for the handbrake to be on?

Ive had the same issue in the past.

The lining had come away from the shoes in the drums at the rear.
I'd get the drums off and have a look.
