ideas for a 'girls car' for the missus?

im in need of some ideas for a new car for the missus. she will have about 4k for a car, doesnt want anything too big so no scoobies/estates! ill be driving it occasionally so no pink cars/ford ka's/pink ford ka's!
shes really keen on bmw minis or 2004 onwards shape micras. insurance isnt really a problem on either as its very similar (under £400 for each). it needs to be reliable as a road trip is planned in june and modifications will be out of the question.
just wondering on opions on these cars, what to look out for or any other suggestions?

Nissan Micra mate. 1.2+ suits all their needs. Large boot, spacious, high enough ride hide with decent standard mod cons. Rear seats are easy to fold flat 2.

Stay away from the older ones though as apparently they had a list of problems/recalls as long as your arm - I went to school with someone who's Mum's one decided to unlock itself and open all the windows one night in the middle of a rain storm. I know of salesman selling them at the time of their launch that say now that they were a heap of poop... :S

A 206 should be a good buy... you should be able to get a newer one with low-ish mileage for her budget :y:
