Hi all,
I am just wondering if driving foot to the floor eg. hitting 6000rpm in 2nd, occasionally will cause much damage to my car?

All depends on the general condition of the car/engine but as long it's in good condition and all your fluids are within the correct parameters there shouldn't be a problem.

Driving it like that when the engine is cold won`t do it any favours.

No its not so bad for the engine as long as it is well serviced etc.

Lol @ the comments on here. As long as your water and more crucially the oil temperature is up then drive it how you want

Just make sure your oil is up to temperature before ragging it rather than going by the coolent temperature guage that alot of people do. I give the car 15 minutes of gentle driving before driving it hard.
I normally take it up to around 7000rpm at least once per journey I just cant help myself.

Dont worry about it, if its maintained well and has oil that isnt old aswell as filters etc then it should be fine. Obviously a life of hard driving will decrease ts life. I sometimes go for a hard drive in the summer in the countryside taking it right up the RPM range in every gear that I go in., I usually stop when the brakes are smoking

Mine had done 176k miles and got ragged to death half the time, but only when warm. Just reduce the intervals between services.

Like others have said as long as you let it warm up there should be no problems.
Just keep it serviced and happy days.
Thinking about it I really need to service mine...

i do the same, weekly stint after work just to coz till my new alternator comes. IMOP, when the temp is off the lowest bar, you're fine to do as u please. never heard a thing from mine and mine's 85k with no engine issues to date TOUCHWOOD

I know I only have a desire, but I never feel it's pushing the car too much when I drive it hard, It's almost like they're made to be driven like that, know what I mean?

Just make sure you regularly service the car, and make sure the oil is warm, not just the water before giving it some, otherwise you will eventually get head gasket, piston ring and possibly valve problems before too long

As someone already said, as long as you let he oil warm up properly before hand you should be okay...don't judge it by the coolant temp gauge, it can take about 10 mins for the oil to get up to temp on some cars after the coolant gauge is already up to temp, not too sure about on Saxos

long as its serviced well and warmed up/cooled down correctly you can kick its head in tbh
theyre strong engines
i run 15psi of boost through my standard engine.. and it gets its head kicked in once its warm when im in the mood :)
they need a clearing out every now and again to keep them healthy anyway.. just dont go redlining it every where lol.. itll do you no favours
