What I'm aiming to do is see if I can get a sensor into the hose before the 'stat as with the rallye head it doesnt go into a water way so sits higher up. With a bit of wiring I reckon I can have it flip on a switch.
So sort of like the rad fan switches that clamp into the hose, effectively making the hose itself the sealing washing clamped between the two fitments.
Something to have a fiddle with any way

Can you not just run a vtr thermostat housing? Then you gain the waterway and can run the green temp sensor instead? Same plug different sensor?

Thats a point but I cant recall if this screws into the head itself or into the stat housing. I do know that when you take it out however no coolant is emitted from the hole. But yeah thats a possibility if I can source one it'd be less work
Its the blue one in this picture, bit difficult to tell if it goes into the housing or not:

No mate goes into the head.
Same set up as my head. Just swap the thermostat housing over and you will have a m12 x 1.5 hole ready to go with the green sensor then just plug blue sensor into where the blanking plug is m14 x 1.5 at the front of the vtr thermostat housing. .
That's what I did and it works fine. Seems to be plenty of housings at breakers yard for about a tenner.
I have one here but it has a extra m12 take off on it.

Do you have a picture of that one so I can compare it to the one I have?
Probably guess I should have kept the one from the silvertop that was originally in the car

Ah that's a totally different stat housing to the one I have then as its got the cam cap as one part with the stat housing. I've got the one with the 90 degree angled thermostat so it points towards the nearside wing

Yeah mate I had the one you have on now and swapped it for this one as it has a unused m14 hole and plug at the front.

Good to know then, ill have to source one at some. Not a critical job but a nice one to do at some point. Shame eBay appears to be bringing up shit loads of them at the moment and none look right. Does the mk1 stat still fit or will I need a new top hose and the plastic stat outlet to fit this? I assume that's a yes

Will I need the plastic outlet I join it though? As its 3 bolts as opposed to 2 if I remember correctly?

No need for that housing mate, had a look today there's a blanking plug fitted to this stat housing in the same thread size! Just need to mod the wiring now which even though I'm riddled with flu and there's snow on the ground ain't gonna stop me! So all those with weird readings because of rallye heads this is the answer
