Top strut mount!

Got a problem! When I first bought my vtr I noticed a patch of rust just under the right hand side strut mount, I have now noticed that it has developed into a crack! Is the car totally f*cked ?!? I was think if I grind the rust back treat it then drill holes either side of the crack to stop it developing then weld it up? Let me know your opinions thanks
