I've just had an interview for a professional valeting company for the general public and main dealerships around the area. And now I've got a 2 day trial to see what I can do.

I've worked in a body shop for over a year and valeted cars every day, but obviously it's a bit different to actual valeting, I know how to use buffers etc. And I know the stages etc. But has anyone got any tips/advice who valet vehicles professionally?

A mate of mine does it, one thing he always says, give them what they pay for.. If they pay for a basic valet, don't spend all day trying to get every mark off it.. If they pay top dollar, don't just do a rush job and hope it looks decent..

I know he took a lad on, who was taking 30+ minutes to just hoover the inside of a normal family car, which is taking the piss really!

That is both write and wrong I have my own valeting business and although yes always remember what service you are doing don't take an hour on a 15 minute valet but 30 minutes to Hoover a family car isn't alway "taking the piss" the tip I can give you is to take notice of what cars you do you will learn different cars have different factors to take in some are so much easier than other for example you'l learn ford carpet is a bitch compared to say BMW or Audi carpet and using the example of family car don't think that should be easy because it is used for exactly that, for the family every single day it gets shitted up and is very uncared for 30 minutes to Hoover isn't always bad if you compare to a super car takes seconds to Hoover it's not used every day and its cared for looked after, biggest tip I can give you is never leave a car any less than what you would expect of yours any advice on techniques look at people like butlers work on here his stages how well he finishes its all in experience bud

Just done my first trial day, had to valet a 10 plate bmw to go out onto the forecourt to be sold, he said the outside was great, however the interior needed work, didn't get every nook, thought I did ok though :y: fingers crossed I get the job :drink:
