Because then you have a range of sockets for future jobs?
You must not have a set already yet are trying to work on your own car?
He's offering help and advice there.

I have my own set, You need a deep socket, I don't have deep sockets.
I am sat at my desk at work, needing to collect the piece today, I asked for the size of the nut, not to be told to go and buy a socket set.

Well 17mm if I re-call..
But like £4-5 for one socket when you could get a set £25 odd, I'd get a set personally.. They're always handy to have! :)
