Little bit about the car, the engine management light has been on for at least 18 months, had no issues with it whatsoever , now , tonight i drove through a bit of water (not a puddle, but enough to just cause a bit of spray) had no issues at all, 10 minutes later i drive through the same bit of water and all of a sudden engine management light flickers on and off and car goes into limp mode :wall:
engine sounds rough, very rough and im lucky if i can get to 30mph in it.
must also note that it stinks of fuel and lots of it but its not leaking anywhere.

turned it off, left it 2 minutes and tried re-starting it. it struggled for about 5 seconds then fired up but still sounds rough and chugging alot.

Have you guys any idea what i need to do to fix it as i need the car?

Cheers

check your fuses

but
sounds like a dodgy earth or poss dodgy cranks sensor or something..

water might be causing car to short out

Fixed it now, hopefully wont happen again anytime soon.

Was the coilpack, fitted my spare and it starts and runs like a dream :)

I would go for water in the map sensor mate.

Sounds like a coil pack mate. Possible the block connector has got water ingress.

Will check both shortly, have a couple of other bits to do to it anyway

tried map sensor, plug/block on coilpack, even unplugged both lambda sensors and it's still chugging every so often , sounds like its starving of fuel. only really starts doing it when i go round corners :(
any other idea's ?

Also, the shitty plastic bit at bottom of my dipstick has broke off and is now swimming in the sump, can that do any damage to anything while its having fun swimming around, or can i leave it in there?

I wouldnt leave that plastic bit in the sump no, it could get stuck over the end of the pickup for the oil pump. Theres a gauze filter on it so it shouldnt get any further than that but you dont want things blocking your oil pickup in any way really. Sump off job to remove unless you get really lucky and it comes out with the oil

With the damp issue try spraying damp start/wd40 on all your electrics then take the car for a steady drive, you should notice after a while that the chugging stops.

Get your car plugged in and get the error codes. Or reset it then see what comes up when it starts missing
