In the late 90's early '00s neons were shit hot! Then, as with all trends i guess they were 'done' and the next trend came.
Nobody has neons any more, nobody parks in mcD's anymore, nobody has saxo's with 8 exhausts and max power body kits, lets be honest.
Because of that, i actually think they would be pretty cool! PROVIDING the owner wasnt serious about them. I think as a bit of a joke and banter they would be a big laugh. Yearning back to the older days when a car show was actually a pretty interesting thing to walk around.

Im a neon fan.
Only subtle ones though.
Like ones that come on as you open your boot/bonnet and light up your boot build/engine bay.
I think they look good when parked up but only at big meets. Not as you pop to get a mcds
And dont do what my mate did and drain your battery with them amd have to get a jump start.
Not a good look.
Get some led strips if you go with it.
Tubes break too easy.

Neons can look okay If they fit with the look of the car, a subtle colour would look okay :)

have you read any comments on this thread?
Go for it - it's your car and you'll enjoy the project, who cares what others think.
I'd go for a SMD strip - easy to attach, easy to wire up, pretty good results and nice and cheap - get a waterproof one and they'll last longer. Shouldn't cost you more than £30 to do the whole underneath perimeter including switches - loads on ebay from HK or UK.
Always makes me laugh how people on here take Saxo customisation so seriously - it's a cheap fun car - nothing more nothing less. Most will get sold as the driver gets older and can afford a more reliable/comfortable/prestigious/etc. car so just enjoy them for what they are ;)

He asked for a opinion and we gave it. Nothing about taking saxo customisation seriously! You're right, he should just do it, it's his car at the end of the day..

He actually asked "I am wondering what is brighter SMD Leds or PVC Leds? or should i stick to the actual neon tubes?" - he didn't ask for an opinion of whether he should do it or not or what people thought of it if he did do it :zainy:

looks exactly the same really, if the tubes and lights are completely hidden, its near enough impossible to tell the difference

well ive got a silver mk1 with a red and blue neon theme, so red in the footwells and blue undercar, i totally agree with people on here, its our own cars, do what you want to do, if everyone had the same car, we would be forever looking for our cars in the carpark lol

Its up to you what you wanna do with your cars, just a common feeling is the neon look was so last year... I did it... I had SMD led neons under my ibiza with a peco big bore 4 exhaust... I did go on to do lots of useful work on it :) (cooper s bonnet scoop for forced cold air induction, cone filter, flowed the head, golf gti larger valves, cam reground, 4-1 exhaust and decat... Went like shit off a shovel for a 1400... Was good to about 60-70 then run outta waft, just dont miss the neons and big bass and all that stuff...

Big body kits, viper stripes, neons, big boot build!! Id like to see that and in answer smd led's are the way forward...

SMD LED strips are much better than bigger tubes.. Thinner and less likely to break them as flexible
