So, i bought my first Saxo. I had to jump it initally when i bought it as i "thought" the battery was dead.

Iv replaced the battery, and had the new battery tested, along with the alternator to see if it has an active charge on tickover.

All is fine.

However, If i come out in the morning, Key into ignition, immobiliser keyed in. Get the green light, go to turn it on, all lights appear, and you hear a loud "click".

Sometimes it'll fire and then drive without a issue, somtimes it refuses.

Im comming to the end of my teather with it, and just want a solution.

Does anyone have anything to suggest. Im worried its somthing eletronic, as the simple things have been checked. - But, i HOPE its somthing simple.

Any suggestions?

Give the starter motor body a tap with a hammer, sounds daft but when the solenoid breaks down the hammer trick get you started. However eventually it`ll refuse to start.Check your earths(battery etc)as well mate.:y:

Where abouts is it located? - I cant seem to locate it through google images!

On top of the gearbox theres an earth, also check the negative terminal of your battery & make sure its clamped tight.

Took off both batttery clamps and refastened. Checked the only earth i could see. Was all fine.

I cant get to the starter motor. It has the standard forced induction piping in the way, i cant pull it out in the dark really.

What kind of work is involved in replacing the starter motor?

The starter is under the inlet manifold held on by 3 bolts iirc some people get to it from under the car.

Just thought i'd add my experience to back up Steve, I had a very similar situation, new battery and alternator and still wouldn't start. Took it to an auto electrician who diagnosed it as a worn starter motor!

A worn starter motor also makes a funny noise, like a slight grind. Pop the bonnet, get your head in and have someone turn it over, should be able to hear if its shagged.

Im fairly sure its the starter motor. Its a very loud CLICK when you turn the key to turn it on.

Can someone advise me on what starter motor i need? - Shall i just re-buy another VTR one or are they interchangable? - Any links ect..?
