Hey All,
Just wondered if anyone could tell me roughly how many sit ups I should be doing a day and how long until i will notice any change? I haven't started yet, thought I'd ask for advise first. :D:

it depends what you want out of it really???? buldging ABS or just a flat toned tuim, i would say for a toned tum, around 3 set's of 15 in the morning and the same when you get back from work/school etc..and give it about 6 weeks and you will notice a big difference..:)

Don't do too many and give your abs recovery time.
Your abs are no different than other muscles. Training them every day won't give them time to recover. Also situps aren't the best exercise for abs.

oh yeah for bulging abs, double the set's...
6 sets - 90 situps day and night....
that wont do it i wouldnt have thought, i do 100 day and night and thats with the bar from argos, that makes it easier to do them but works the abs more so i dont know how 90 would do it....
posibly like...

whatever you do dont train them everday, for the people that do they are not not training them hard enough. they need time to recover so every other day is fine. thers loads of exersises to do that you want to mix up to keep your body guessing. for the amounts, just do them till you stomach is hurting, quick rest and then a few more. next time just aim for more. dont do situps either you wanna be doing crunches as your keeping the tension on them then. voila :)

Kelly if you PM me ill write you a rough programme & answer all your questions!
Sits ups are not ur answer to a flat stomach, although they should be incorperated in an abdominal workout. as should low back exercises!
there are many abdonimal muscles, Rectus abdominus ( 6pack muscle) Transversus Abdomnis ( weight belt muscle ) internal & external obliques (rotational motion muscles - mainly)
there are many exercises for all these muscles!! the problem is getting them to work instead of you hip flexor muscles.... technique is key & the right exercises....
im awaiting your PM

Don't do them everyday, you will overtrain.
Do them like on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and for each day do about 4 or 5 sets of 10.

Common problem faced mainly by girls is the worry of a massive 6 pack popping out of no where, don't worry that won't happen
There is so much more to building a ripped 6 pac than sit ups, for a start you need to target lower, middle and bottom abs. Sit ups do help but its mainly lifting (squats, deadlifts) that really build abs. Id say go for failure, example if u can push out 20, have a min rest then do 15, then 10 , then 5.
