Hi guys im looking for a new car in the next few weeks i have 10k to spend i either want a Corsa VXR, Fiat 500 Abarth or a Mini Cooper S which would you suggest please don't say dont get any of these etc because i have my heart on one of these 3 just cant decide which one
Cheers
Would have the Cooper S out of that list.
The Corsa makes some fruity noises, but that's about it.
The Cooper S was properly fun to drive imo.

500 Abarth purely because they're cool and you rarely see them.

Rule out the Fiat 500 and then flip a coin between the Mini and the Vauxhall, dare ya.
I mean you're asking a forum full of people you don't know to choose, so why not use an equally as wacky method? Go on, do the coin flip. I bought my last car on the flip of a coin (albeit we are talking £800), and it's been fine. Do it.

I might sound biased owning a Mini, I would say Corsa but I can't see how you can justify spending about 3-5k more than a Mini to buy one, spend £1000 on a Mini and you can get it to 250bhp and it will be reliable, none of them cars are very good on the juice either but I'd say the Mini is worst, oh and tax on Mini is a killer.

I don't think 1k will see 250bhp, exhaust, pulley, inter cooler add up to that tbf thats 220bhp still quick none the less.

I'd go for the 500 for something different. Mini's are bloody everywhere and the Corsa's do look like a 17 year olds wet dream

Not a fan of any, but out of the three definitely the 500, why not a Punto though?

I'm loving the look of cooper s recently despite everything i have said about them in the past :'( PEOPLE CHANGE!!!
i do however also really like 500 abarths, fuck knows why!! Just think they look class, and are actually a small car still which seems to be getting rare!!

I dont think you could go wrong with any of the 3 really, but i've only driven a cooper S JCW although I still felt it was a bit big for my tastes even though it handled and went very well.
I dont like the looks of the abarth though, I think theres a reason why they are rare

7th March 2013, 15:41
have to say the 500 Abarth is growing on me, never liked the cooper s. don't think the corsa vxr's are what they are cracked up to be but i would have one if they were cheaper.

How many people do you come across with one?
Ever post of your seems to be a tosser like post, but I don't call you one.
Corsa nice car, drove one was nippy but wanted more power, I think they are nice for what they are and are currently holding value quite well!
Used to have piston 4 problems due to Max'd out injectors when mapped but that's been sorted. Stage one map can get them around 220 I think. A Stage one Corsa kept up with my Astra when it was standard and it handles better.
Cooper S gf has one, lovely car feels well planted! She has had a few problems with hers (power steering pump failure) common problem on some, read up! She's had a wheel bearing, shocker, gear box and electrical problems with hers. All apart from last I put down to her driving. They ain't cheapest cars to repair!
Fiat, ain't had anything to do with them.

Personally I'd go for the 500, I tried to talk her into buying one when she bought the corsa but se was having none of it.

The vxr as a car? I like.
Performance? I can't see how they can produce same power as other cars, but the way its delivered and put on the ground makes them shit slow
Love arbarths, cooper s I like too, but overall looks the vxr wins, if you want performance, 500 or mini - these will wipe vxr's all day long

Out of the selection, I'd go for the Corsa VXR - the other two are girls cars. I saw a VXR yesterday in Arden Blue and it looked alright... it does look like it's trying a bit hard IMO though - agree with the 17 year old wet dream look tbh :S
If it were me, I'd be popping down to the local Renault dealers and looking at Clio 200's personally :y:
500 is cool althogh not much quicker than a vtr, Cooper S will be best bet for reliability and speed!

I've driven the corsa and the mini but not the abarth . . .
The corsa just didnt cut it for me nice cars lovely seats, ride quality is a bit harsh but overall not too bad
The mini handles like a dream power delivery is spot on only driven the supercharged model but it was very entertaining interior is horrid though . . .
The 500 I have a mega soft spot for I love the styling, personally I'd give them all a good test drive before you make a decision but I think I'd have the 500
Paul
7th March 2013, 18:12
One of them 500's suprised me a couple day ago when i was on the way home. I was suprised how fast it set off from the lights. I imagine it wasn't standard, however it did look a lot of fun.

For me personally it would have to be the 500 arbarth, don't know why, but there's just something about the way it looks that I like about it..... I'd even say its one of those cars I'd like to own when I grow up a bit

500, gotta think about parking. not say th other two are the much bigger but then economy and all tht jazz.
500 are common as cunts who cant park but abarths are great

I'd pick the corsa
I don't think 1k will see 250bhp, exhaust, pulley, inter cooler add up to that tbf thats 220bhp still quick none the less.
1k:
GRS Intercooler £400
17% Pulley £70
550cc injectors @220
Shrick Cam £170
That is if you could do most of the work yourself, that spec takes you to 250bhp

Mini is defo a girls car... So wouldn't even be thinking about one of them...
I also looked at the vxr and 500 when I bought my gti, I found that the insurance on a vxr was double that of my golf...
Out of the 3 id look at the 500 if I was you... Or even a mk5 golf GTI... You will be surprised at how cheap the insurance is for a 2l turbo

I'm off to test drive a new VXR today, Astra one that is.
Won't be buying one, not for the foreseeable future as I can't bear the thought of spending 26k on an Astra. But the sales rep said to come and try it out so that I will!
10k should get you a nice hot hatch! Regardless of if its the Mini, Corsa or 500! And will be a step up from the Furio
Best thing is to test drive them all and find out which one suits you most!
Vauxhall will never win everyone's hearts for what ever reason, but I am more than happy with mine at the min plus several other members on here like Paul and another lad who had a turbo'd VTS, oh and the fact that at the min they have an offer on where you register your car and you get 25% off servicing and a free £40 voucher for parts! Got a few family members with Vauxhalls and you can get some more! So far I've got £160 worth of vouchers too spend on bits and bobs!
devilsadvocate

You need to factor in the Clio 200 really to make the list complete for hot hatches.

I have the same idea as you Paul, hold off for abit. When they release a special edition then the normal ones will drop hopefully and ill be in.
Went to test drive it but someone had turned up and put a deposit on it that morning. The guy said he couldn't put the person off and they wanted it this weekend and everything went through for them so they sold it too them.
Bit disappointed but I understand. He said he will ring me as soon as they get another in, because there has been quite alot of interest in them and the new bi-turbo diesel one thats coming out.
Im keeping a close eye on all the problems people are having with these stone chips on the arches and rear quarter too! Paint is chipping like mad on them for the people with the 20" wheels!!

2) interior is the best in the corsa ( recaros)

I had a VTR and cammed VTS and have driven both the Cooper S and VXR standard for standard handling wise there wasn't much in it.
Why is it so hard to believe there can be a car that can actually be better than a Saxo?
Times move on mate.
VXR and Cooper S weigh more and have more goodies inside, they don't have a go kart feel like the Saxo because they weigh more but trust me if you went to test drive either you would be surprised!
But then again your so narrow minded you would prob already of decided they're shit before you even opened the door of either;

There's the Steinberg/Cubase university there, the tuition fees alone are ridiculous. I also met a student who was driving an audi rs3, along with other silver spoon types.
Oh and I would vote Mini purely because I would expect a better build quality and finish. Though I wouldn't be keen on any of them 3 tbh as in the 10k bracket I'm pretty sure I could find better.

Lets be honest its the same with Saxo's, Clio's and Mini's
Its simple build a half decent car performance wise, with good looks that will capture most (will never please everyone) and at a decent price the car will sell!
Also am sure you bought a Saxo because it was rare!
